At this time last year, rumors were flying about possible tie-ups between Renault-Nissan and one of Detroit’s Big 3 automakers, General Motors, Ford or Chrysler. Renault-Nissan’s charismatic CEO, Carlos Ghosn, says that he’d still be interested in a partnership with one of the Detroit automakers.
The Financial Times is reporting that although Ghosn isn’t in talks with any carmaker, he has expressed interest in a partnership once again.
Ghosn did flat out deny that Renault-Nissan is interested in purchasing Volvo from Ford.

I think the failed DaimlerChrysler experiment will prevent any mergers.
I don’t think anyone wants another Le Car.
Maybe they’ll collaborate on some parts with on of the Big 3.

How would this benefit Renault-Nissan? I can’t think of single reason… beyond platform sharing.

Partnership is different than merger. I think R-N would benefit with market share. Nissan has about 6% of market share at the most. Renault is not even here. Another reason could be a more extensive dealer network? Afterall, Ghosn is and was the one who expresses interest in an alliance first, not the Detroit big-three. He must have good reasons for that.

The problem is, nobody WANTS a partnership with these fools. Any company stupid enough to forge an alliance with them deserves to go bankrupt.
