Renault is reportedly seeking to acquire a premium car brand that would enable it to compete with the top German automakers. The company is said to have approached Ford with an offer to buy Volvo , but the offer was declined. But according to a new report, Renault has not dropped the idea of acquiring a premium brand, such as Saab , since alliance partner Nissan ’s premium Infiti brand has no profile in the European market. Vehicle News also suggests that the company is still considering some type of alliance with either GM or Ford, with an exchange of shares. Rumors also surfaced last week that Bill Ford had approached Renault’s Carlos Ghosn with an offer to take over his CEO post.
