Christened Sandero GT Line, the hatchback differs from a run-of-the-mill Sandero thanks to a more stylized front bumper that incorporates two big fog lights, blacked out headlamps and GT Line-specific decals on both sides.
The sporty ambiance continues on the inside with red seatbelts and seats upholstered in black cloth with red stitching. The instrument cluster features imitation carbon fiber trim, track-inspired gauges and the GT Line logo prominently written in red.
Things are noticeably less sporty in the engine bay and the Sandero GT Line is powered by the same archaic eight-valve 1.6-liter engine that is found in the regular Sandero. When running on ethanol it makes 106 horsepower and 112 lb-ft of torque, figures that drop to 98 and 104 respectively when burning gasoline.
The 1.6-liter is bolted to a five-speed manual transmission that spins the front wheels. Performance figures were not released.
On sale now throughout its home country of Brazil, the Sandero GT Line carries a base price of 38,470 Brazilian reais, or roughly $19,100. Renault does not plan on offering the car in Europe, where the Sandero is marketed as a discreet and bare-bones low-cost family car.
