Renault Scenic: Third generation MPV debuts

03/03/2009, 9:51 AM

By Andrew Ganz

Renault chose the Geneva Motor Show to unveil the third generation versions of its Scenic and Grand Scenic MPVs. Based on the all-new Megane, the Scenic MPVs will be available in European dealerships in June. An emphasis has been made on making the interiors more comfortable for long-distance travel.

Now in its third generation, the new Scenics feature a number of new features to go with their fresh style. The instrument panel features a customizable color TFT screen in the gauge pod and the interior has been revised for extra space throughout.

An integrated TomTom navigation system will be available for an extra cost and audiophiles will no doubt appreciate the optional Arkamys 3D Sound system, available on high-end models.

The Scenic offers an impressive choice of engines, including six gasoline and seven diesel options for Europe.
The Grand Scenic can seat up to seven, though both models come standard with seating for five. Rear doors open as they would in a standard sedan – the norm for smaller MPVs in Europe.

Side view reminds me of RAV-4 which is not a bad thing. Can someone enlighten me why we can not get choice of 13 engines in great land of ours for a vehicle?

Look at that 5-speed though, excellent! Mazda even dropped that for it’s 5 “minivan”, what a shame.
