Speaking with Automotive News Europe, Renault/Nissan COO Carlos Tavares revealed that Renault is readying a two-step process to develop its own luxury brand. Tavares says Renault will begin the process of launching its own luxury brand by first upping the content in its current vehicles, much like cross-country rival Citroen has done with its DS range. Following that step, Renault will launch a stand-alone luxury division under the Initiale Paris name.
No timeframe was given for the launch of the Initiale Paris brand, but Tavares indicated the process will likely take several years.
"Nissan needed 25 years to take Infiniti where it is today," he said. "Initiale Paris is not something that could be completed in the next two years."
