Report: 365 hp Audi TT-RS still in the cards

The on-again, off-again high-performnance Audi TT rumor saga continues with a published report today claiming Audi is indeed working on two new variants of its redesigned coupe and roadster. Audi plans to offer a TT-S and TT-RS in coming months and years, according to a new report from Edmunds.

Recent spy photos by Hans G. Lehman seem to confirm a TT-S is in the works — something most folks have been expecting. Today’s report echos Lehman’s assertion that the car will have the same 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine from the new Audi S3, with a modest output boost above the engine’s regular 265 horsepower. It should arrive in early 2007.

More controversial is the much-rumored Audi TT-RS. Edmunds claims the vehicle will feature a five-cylinder 365 horsepower engine with the same head configuration as the 5.2-liter V10 used in the S8. The report says the car will arrive in two years. However, in early September Auto Express said Audi scrapped plans for the RS model. Since we have little information one way or the other, this one will have to remain open to speculation…

If they do it, makes you wonder why they don’t bump up the HP numbers for the R8? 365HP motor, if it’s turbo charged means that chipping it would likely get you very close to R8 numbers in a TT without the R8 price. And the TT looks quite similar to the R8. It seems like a questionable decision if it is true.

Motor Trend states that its a 2.5 litre 5 cylinder turbocharged engine capable of over 350 horsepower. A 6 speed manual will be offered but a new DSG for transverse engine Audis arent ready yet. They also say expect extra wings and spoilers, a big brake upgrade, 19 or 20 inch rims, and its possible they might offer ceramic brakes.

Agreed it is getting old. For them to drop a lambo engine in a measly TT is ludicis, specialy since they have perfectly good AUDI engines to do what they want for a TTS, like the 2L tubo, thats capable of 350hp, specially the 3.2. Be realistic.

The question would be if a higher performance version of this car would sell well in the real world.

The style still leaves me cold.
Certainly the ‘Whoopee’ factor has been turned up to 11 and that is commendable, but there is just something about the shape of this car that has just always turned me off.

No way would Audi miss an opportunity such as the TTRS, not while there’s still SLKs. The second generation TT would be a joke without it.

This car is going to cost over $50K, what else could you buy in that range?

Something somewhat nicer than a TT.

Corvette… ///M Coupe…. ///M Roadster….///M3… Cayman….Cayman S(stripped)…new Skyline GT-R… all built on real deal RWD chassis, not some improved FWD Golf chassis, all with more cylinders.

The TT was supposed to be a less expensive, yet very stylish and quick car. This car while very nice, probably will not sell well here.
