Report: Audi planning R8 roadster for 2008

08/14/2006, 7:48 PM

By admin

Audi will offer a roadster version of its forthcoming R8 supercar in 2008, according to Germany’s Stimme.de. While no specific details were given, the report doesn’t come as a surprise, considering the R8 rides on the Lamborghini Gallardo platform. Sister company Lamborghini began offering the Gallardo Spyder this year after much demand from enthusiasts. Audi is expected to unveil the 2007 R8 coupe late this summer at the Paris Motor Show. The coupe will be priced against the BMW M6, Aston Martin Vantage, and Porsche 911. The R8’s exterior is derived directly from the 2003 Le Mans Quattro concept (pictured).

This thing is going to be the next hit for Audi. It’ll outshine everything else on the road when it comes out. However, it’ll cost around 110k sticker. That’s M6 price. That’s 997 GT3 price. Mercedes will likely release the re-designed SL series around ‘09. Lotus will release their new Esprit around then as well. $100k sport cars are a tough market to compete in.

Can’t wait to see this car. Audi is really going to have an image builder in this one. A roadster version is obvious.

audi’s RS models are very good cars, if you consider the engineering levels and tecnology, but their are not as good to drive, even if you haven’t drove an M3 yet. and looking at the R8 aspect from the spy-movie at nurburgring, this one in particular doesn’t seem to be very good even to look at. a sort of big cayman. an then, even if the tag price is that one of M6, V8 vantage, SL or 911 GT3, none of you notice that they are some VERY VERY different cars?!? come on…

Leon,

Haven’t you noticed that the drivetrain on the RS cars (Quattro) and the M3’s RWD are VERY VERY different?

Yeah I really can’t wait for this car, it looks great, not to mention its shared mechanicals with the Lamborghini Gallardo are going to make it one of the sickest performance buys there is.
