Audi has scrapped plans for a high-performance variant of its TT sports car, according to the latest issue of the U.K.’s Auto Express. The decision was made in order to leave space for the R8 supercar, the report said. This summer, several European publications reported a range-topping model called the TT RS would debut in 2008 with a 300+ horsepower five- or six-cylinder engine. But according to this new report, the recently-introduced Audi’s TT S-Line package will be the sportiest version of the car offered for the foreseeable future. This is like Dodge axing the (K-Body) Daytona because they were afraid of cannibalizing Viper sales.
It makes no sense…….even with a 300+ hp/6 cyl. engine, how could a hi po TT crowd out the R8??

When BMW Z4 come out, BMW said it would not make ///M version of it and that it would never have a four-banger. It comes with 4-cyl. engine now (not for North American market) and Z4///M just come out too.

That sucks. So they won’t be any competition to the Z4M’s or the Caymen, (I know that Porsche now owns Audi by Default) I would of like to of seen a bi turbo version of this. It’s starting to grow on me.
Ah Audi, content with mediocrity. Sad

I dont think this will damage Audi at all, considering how well they’re doing right now.

What a stupid idea, the TT has always needed more oompf, and a TT RS would be just the thing to do that. Id buy a 2.0t TT before id buy a piece of **** Cayman. Audi needs to bring back a twin turbo, 6-or-less-cylinder engine to drop in this thing as well as the A3. TT S-line is bull****.

Huh I thought they could leave room for the Audi supercar… being that the Supercar has many Lamborghini parts from what I understand and the TT being a 4 cylinder, even with the turbo boost.

well I sure do. I don’t believe a turbocharged TT would hurt sales of Audis “supercar”.
Wow alot of stupid comments on this post… and every other post too. I don’t think I’ll be posting on LLN anymore and the smartest of you should do the same, as our knowledge is not put to use here.

What I really like about this story is the “foreseeable future” bit. If there’s one thing I hate, it’s buying a new car and then finding a few months later that I could have got 40 more hp for almost the same money. Listening, BMW?

That’s a shame. Seems like there is plenty of market available in between a dressed up TT and the R8, unless the R8 will be a lot less expensive than originally thought.

too bad they are not making the rs.. i drove the tt just yesterday and it’s a great car and all but it needs a bit more power for a car that looks like that.
i mean it feels like it’s missing a few hp’s

It would probably help the TT more if they gave it rear wheel drive. A german sports car, with front wheel drive?? Then you find out it’s built on a VW Bug chassis. Meaningless, I know, but it just feels tainted.

We will just have to wait and see how the TT S (not S-line, the ‘S’ version of the TT, i.e. S4, S6, etc…) is when it comes out.

I dont think the S-Line will have much more power if any over the base 3.2. This story is a true shame for Audi as the 335i coupe is a natural competitor to this new much-larger TT and yet it wont be able to keep up at all I’m afraid, which I would guess will really affect potential buyers during a test drive.
The real issue is that what we all truly need is to combine the exterior and interior of the new TT with the engine of the new 335i. And then the world would all make sense as the TT would stand for “Twin Turbo,” this press release wouldn’t exist and we wouldnt have to live with the 335i exterior just to get that motor…

Man this sux, it coulda been a 3.2TT
Maybe Audi isn’t gonna make an S-Line with a bigger engine. Maybe a more powerful TTTT (TTTwinTurbo)
