I am familiar with reliability survey and I agree with you. Still, take a CTS over the course of the same 4-6 years and an RS. After factoring all costs and resale you will come out spending a lot less than the 15k spread in original msrp. And you will have driven a great all around car in the rs.

My experience with reliability doesnt match up to JD Power but I do respect the list. Keep in mind that Euro & Japan luxury cars are the ones that take risks and make advances in auto technology more than American cars (as of late). All that tech may have a glitch causing a quick update service. That counts against the automaker the same as a car spending a week in the shop for mechanical problems.

I wish JD power would separate mechanical from tech issues or

Totally agree with you. (The crap thing was not directed to you). Americans are behind, trying the follow, but it doesn't make them bad cars.

For the reliability, I don't agree. Many american construtors have better reliability than europeans, especially Audi.

Check this (problems per 100 cars), its from J.D. Power and Associates, 2005 report for 2002 cars:

To be clear, I never wrote and would never write the CTS was crap. Yes Amer cars are catching up but Euro & Japanese brands keep improving and staying ahead of Amer brands.

For some people price is not as important as having the best they can afford. Tha means a little more for a little better euro car.

For some its bang for the buck and Amer cars provide that. They may not be the best a the end of the day but they are still good.

Of course the true total cost of owership of an american car is more than most americans realize. Factor in maintenance, repair and resale value on both the RS & CTS and the difference between the CTS & RS is going to be less than the 15k you listed above.

In my experience it has been only slightly more expensive to own great euro and japan cars over american equivalents when I look at the total cost of owning over entire the life of the vehicle. And with that little extra I got piece of mind and less hassle - which is worth more to me than a little money. Just my opinion.

By the way, i'm not pro american nor pro european.
But american cars tends to be more competitive to those european cars. Now they handle better and quality seems better (like the C6 Z06). I totally agree with you Driven that a car is not just a thing of power. CTS-v have a great Nurburgring lap time, like the RS4. I think Cadillac is getting closer to european car with quality, power, handling and look. Don't forget the price.

If somebody want to say that a car is crap, do it but mention facts with that, it will be better to argue.

End of the line, I would have any of those cars !! ;)

I'm begining to see the difference between American model and European model car drivers. Those that drive American cars only care about 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. Maybe it has to do with American car companies being big on drag racing (going straight, fast) and nascar where you only have to turn left (or is it right?). American car companies focus on those strengths and their drivers relate with that.

Euro car drivers look for a more complete package & seem to like euro cars more. Maybe that because Euro companies invest in formula, touring and ralley racing. Those have corners and straightaways so a perfect balance between power and handling is needed.

Just a thought I had the more I read euro & american owners write about whats important.

Admittedly I havent been in a CTS recently. If the interior were anything like they were a few years back then Audi has the CTS by a long shot. The RS ride feels more refined and I would expect the RS to own a CTS on corners. Its not all about gunning a car from light to light. Its about the all around driving experience and that includes turning the wheel. Granted, a CTS is a great car but the RS is an all around better car IMO. Its debatable whether its 15k better.

For the V-series haters :
CTS-v : 51000$, 0-60 : 4,6 s, 1/4 mile : 13.1 s
RS4 : 66000$, 0-60 : 4,6 s, 1/4 mile : 13.07 s

They are about the same weight, the Audi is a little heavier.

So whats the big deal ? You just don't like to save money ?

"The Rs4 is undoublty the hottest and most talked about sports sedan on the market ritght now"
- Comment by ss1

Come on ss1. I think your fanboy is coming out in that sentance. Outside the Audi community no one knows the Rs4 from the s4 or any other Audi. Its a great car but its not the most talked about sports sedan. BMw's 335 sedan, M5, any Mercedes AMG and many other models get a lot more press, interest & sales than the Rs4. I think the Rs4 is a great car, but its definitely not the most talked about sports sedan outside the Audi message boards.

"its unfortunate the way resale on audis work. the moment a new audi shows up, the older model's prices drop like a brick. this isnt really the case for other luxury marques, i dont know why audi cant retain their value. but in any case this may be why cars like the a4 cabrio, s4, and rs4 are going out. it will help future cars retain their value better by not having all these cars compete against each other. so yah, pick up the rs4 now if you believe this rumor because if it is, youll see market values on second hand cars jump."
- Comment by gsh

gsh, that is interesting and true. It happened with my last audi but has never happened with my old MB, BMW or lexus. I would be interested in hearing why this happens to Audis more than other brands.

______________^ its confusing. the RS4, should fight M3 sedan RS5, M3 coupe and RS6, M5. Audi RS models tend to be "get em while you can". the previous RS6 was only availabe for about a year or two and its very rare. the new one should be extremely insane with 580 bhp

Meanpants, your dreams were taken away when your father forced you to suckle his cock when you were an infant. Your dreams were taken from you a LOOONG time ago my pretty....

On another note, I don't really understand why they're doing this. So the RS6 is designed to fight the M5, but who's going to battle the M3 sedan? Stupid.

Meanpants, your dreams were taken away when your father forced you to suckle his **** when you were an infant. Your dreams were taken from you a LOOONG time ago my pretty….

On another note, I don’t really understand why they’re doing this. So the RS6 is designed to fight the M5, but who’s going to battle the M3 sedan? Stupid.

those who are speculating that its because its not selling or it has a high price tag , im DEFINETLY sure that that is not the issue. The Rs4 is undoublty the hottest and most talked about sports sedan on the market ritght now. From its revolutionary high rev engine to its praised driving dynamic. i'm pretty sure the demand for it its still there.

For those who don't know about cars, you should note that its a well know fact that audi RS models are always limited models. audi rarely carries more than one in production. The way they are made is very different from how merc makes their AMGs or BMW their Ms, thats more like how audi makes their S models. I don't know since Audi is expanding if this is still going to be the case with the rs5 and rs6

55amg, Thailands neighbor to the west, Myanmar (which is where im from)an 07 land cruiser str8 outta jpn could for tht much. at least grey imports in thailand are more easier to get than in myanmar, cause the gov is soo corrupt.

vseries, the M3 hasnt come out yet and you should probably test the RS4 before make pointless judgements about "how powerful the cts-v is" oh my so powerful...

If this report is true, that would be terrible as the Audi RS4 is a fantastic car to drive. The RS4 is a limited edition car with a short life cycle.

The RS4 costs $100,000+ in Mexico, I personally don't think it's worth it at all. It's even more expensive than an S8 in the US.

i don't get it the RS5 and RS6 wouldn't really cannibalize one another because if you want a 4 door you can grab either of the 2 foor doors and if you want a 2 door grab the RS5. all this does is ensure you have the 60,000+ segment fully covered

It really doesn't make sense to discontinue the sedan but keep the convertible and wagon.. but then again, when Audi brought the last generation S6 to the US they only brought the wagon and left the sedan duty to the RS6.

RS6 will be crazzzy~ but they still need RS4.
I believe they are discontinuing the model because new platform is coming soon.
Platform B8 will be in the showroom by next year fall as 2009 model. RS series
usually comes a year after.

No big loss here... I hope they do phase it out, it was a horrible, ugly car. Audi probably realized that the RS4 was going to get crushed by the new CTS-V and pulled it off the market before it embarrassed them. BMW should do the same with the M3.

its unfortunate the way resale on audis work. the moment a new audi shows up, the older model's prices drop like a brick. this isnt really the case for other luxury marques, i dont know why audi cant retain their value. but in any case this may be why cars like the a4 cabrio, s4, and rs4 are going out. it will help future cars retain their value better by not having all these cars compete against each other. so yah, pick up the rs4 now if you believe this rumor because if it is, youll see market values on second hand cars jump.

bousbous55, people that buy RS4s aren't really cross-shopping all that much because the RS4 has a niche market for Audi enthusiasts. The price is actually $73,250 out the door, and they don't sit on the lot for too long- most are customer orders. They'll scrap production eventually because all RS4s come in waves. The next one will probably be out around 2010 as a B8 RS4 after the new A4/S4 debuts later in the year/early spring. Once the B8 A4 platform comes out, sales of the "older" looking B7 RS4 might be impacted, and Audi, having limited production abilities once the all new A5/S5/RS5 family comes out, probably decided not to waste time on the RS4. It was intended as a limited production vehicle anyways. Owners of the RS4 might be happy, they'll own a limited car, 15 years from now, it'll be a classic.

The next one will probably be out around 2010 as a B8 RS4 after the new A4/S4 debuts later in the year/early spring. Once the B8 A4 platform comes out, sales of the “older” looking B7 RS4 might be impacted, and Audi, having limited production abilities once the all new A5/S5/RS5 family comes out, probably decided not to waste time on the RS4. It was intended as a limited production vehicle anyways. Owners of the RS4 might be happy, they’ll own a limited car, 15 years from now, it’ll be a classic.
