BMW recently revealed its high-performance 1 Series M, but failed to release pricing for the speedy two-door. However, a new report has revealed what the latest M product will cost at retail.

According to a new report from Inside Line, the 1 Series M will list for about $45,000. That starting price represents about a $15,000 discount from the M3, which carries a base price of $59,275.

BMW is hopeful that the more reasonable price tag of the 1 Series M will bring a younger buyer to the M performance family. “As pricing went up in the current-generation M3, the demographics skewed higher in terms of age and income,” BMW spokesman Thomas Plucinsky said. “With the 1 Series M Coupe, we’re hoping to give younger people a chance to get into an M car — people in their 30s.”

However, that pricing scheme could be compromised by availability. BMW has reportedly only allotted 1,000 examples of the 1 Series M for the U.S., with demand likely to far outstrip supply.
