DrFill- You shouldn’t judge someone, especially if your judgment is consistently off. But apparently your predictions, or opinions, are pretty far off as well when BMW is only 3300 units in sales behind Lexus, as of now. Not too much of a “win” for an automaker with 4 more lower priced models.

Why wouldn’t BMW just designate this “0-Series” as a 1-series Hatch and offer smaller engine i.e. 116ti, 120ti, etc? Further designate the 1-series coupe with a “-ci” suffix i.e. 128ci, 135ci if you don’t want to utterly confuse the shit out of people. Or give the “0″ series an alphabetic model designation such as the “t16i”, “t20i”. Whatever they do, please for the love of god don’t call it a “0″ series lol. It’s bad enough that they are going to have FWD vehicle in the BMW fleet.

Well I guess this was inevitable but I find it hard to believe that the 1-series is as small a RWD car as they can design themselves. What ever happened to their 3-cylinder 1-Series lineup? Wouldn’t that meet and exceed stringent fuel economy regulations?

Bleh. I say they have Mini, why isn’t that good enough? Minis are already full of technology and features and command a premium price in the segment. And about that name, I belive Mitsubishi already made a Zero series some 70 years ago. many Americans don’t recall that name with much fondness.

then this is really an admission that the current 1-series is way off target…is there really room for a 0, 1 and 3 series? if the 3 series grows fat and moves upscale that’s fine, but the 3 used to be the entry level car…the 1 and 3 aren’t different enough, it would seem, and so they want to bring in a different platform for the entry level…i’m still not too excited about this…if you like the mini platform, buy a mini…

I think it would have been better to make this as a third model for the MINI brand. Doesn’t the MINI brand still factor into their meeting fuel economy regs? Adding a fwd BMW makes no sense. BMW has too many models already, trying to fill every niche will only tarnish their image.

My only problem with this is if they make it like the One-Series. It’s a quick little car, and it looks alright. But it looks like they tried to squeeze a three series into a one series body, and it’s totally impractical. They need to make a practical small car.

significantly under $25,000 with typical bmw engineering prowess and quality, elegant-aggressive styling, and good turbo-direct-injection 1.8-2.4 liter gas and diesels?? that might be a ticket…

with an assumed emphasis on the handling…. awd option, loaded sill in the mid to high twenties…
