Jaguar is about to experience a turnaround. Fresh total redesigns are coming out for the flagship sedan (XKR?) and it looks good, although I have to admit BMW and MB have flooded the market with a million choices in the upscale sedan segment.

Jaguar has always been a money loser, sell it fast.

Don’t sell Volvo, it makes lots of money off hippies from the 60′s and their children. Volvo makes money.

But Ford is stupid like GM who sold the cash cow GMAC.

If anybody wants to buy Volvo now is the best time. It will be a good investment for BMW regardless of whether they’ll be sharing technology or not. Though I can imagine a more fruitful collaboration between those two companies than any other. Peugeot, Renault, and Citroen are useless. They look good but have some of the worst reliability and interior quality. If you’ve owned a few you’ll understand…

why is it that no matter how may strides the domestic make some of you will never forgive them? They are ours and a source of great pride so they have made mistakes hell as far as I’m concerned ain’t nothing perfect. it is almost as if some of you wish for their demise. Why? dont you know someone employed by one of them or of any one of their parts distributors? Where is that American spirit?

Sharif you say that Ford did not do a good job with Volvo well according to their sales which are up and their designs and market share both up it all points out to the fact that under Fords control they have became a much healthier company so stop hatting on the Domestics. Aston was also better off just sold to raise some capital, but Ford still retains 10% Ha Ha!!!!

I still think that this is bogus.. If BMW were really looking for assistance with the Mini’s FWD platform wouldn’t they reach out to PSA, since they are already cooperating on the Mini’s engines? Seems like a natural pairing since their vehicles don’t really compete or overlap much.. and BMW could definitely help bring Peugeot or Citroen back to the States.

BMW needs to buy Volvo just as much as Lotus nees to buy Lambo. It’s not necessary. Ford should indeed get rid of it because Volvo has gone way down hill. My mom used to own a S90 and I loved that thing. All new Volvos are plasticy, made that way so moms can easily wipe them down with lysol if needed.

No way that’s going to happen Ford needs Volvo and have been doing a good job with it. BMW couldn’t take care of Land Rover which is much smaller than Volvo give it a few years and Volvo could maybe buy BMW, besides the price Ford would ask would be astronomical and more than likely out of reach for such a small manufacturer. This is more or less a ploy to play with some stock prices.

that would be a mistake for ford. they need volvo, i dont know why but i have a feeling that they need them. i mean ford wants the new or next explorer could be based off of’s volvo’s xc90…but thats what i have to say about that.

@Syrax:
The ‘S’ in S60 means ‘sedan’; the coupe version of this car is the C70. Furthermore, the R series is being dropped due to lack of sales. For the same money you can buy a BMW 335i, which beats the S60R in virtually every category (ironic, given this topic…)

BMW: focuses on its core offerings of mid to upper range performance cars; RWD/AWD drivetrains
Volvo: focuses on mid to upper range luxury and family cars; FWD/AWD
Rolls Royce: focuses on top-end luxury and performance; RWD
MINI: focuses on entry level performance and family cars (Clubman?); FWD

I think it could work. The only deconfliction may need to happen around the C30/MINI/1-Series cars.

Death is calling for FoMoCo. The Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury names will be history soon enough. Where the rest will go, who knows. If General Motors were smart, they would look into grabbing Mazda just before Ford finally takes its last breath. Jaguar and Land Rover will probably go to investment companies.

No way should Ford be selling Volvo, they need a luxury brand and they have done a decent job with Volvo. Now that Aston is gone they can move Jaguar upmarket to where it should be too.
I don’t see the logic for BMW either, unless they just want to get bigger for the sake of it. Either PSA or Renault would be a good buyer for Volvo tho’.

BMW also owns Mini and Rolls-Royce, which define “performance” at opposite ends of the spectrum.

If they are considering it, I’m sure they can do a good job with it.

Ford should axe Mercury, pair Lincoln with the Premiere Auto Group and have Mazda run it. Talk about a company that is attuned to its customers! It is just what Ford needs most of all!
