The point is this car will be fast because it utilizes its torque more efficiently by means of a *steady torque curve* and *gearing*. And a good torque curve is what CREATES high horsepower numbers.

Horsepower IS a measurement of torque at a given RPM, it’s the definition of the term. That doesn’t mean horsepower doesn’t mean anything, but you can’t say that horsepower is more important than torque like the person I was replying to did, because horsepower *relies* on torque to EXIST. Torque and work are forces, horsepower is a calculation of force. I did not say it doesn’t mean anything, just setting a misconception straight.

——————->lol dude i “do 5 minutes of research on a little thing called “formulas”" on the screen above the cash register for 6 hours everytime i go to work at Advance Autoparts…….real talk, if horsepower was, as you say, a measurement of torque @ any given RPM, then in dat case there seriously would be no such thing as a horsepower curve……Road&Track would just be waisting their Ink saying that my SRT-4 made 230hp@5700rpm and 250lb/ft@3200rpm……IN CONCLUSION: just as feet are to meters or yards, horsepower IS a physical force just as torque.

@josh-Well, the C63 will be another one thrown into the small sedan+big V8 HP pissing war.

Probably right around 450lb-ft of torque. However, as an AMG engine, it’s more of a slam-on-the-pedal, torques ready right around 2000rpms kind of engine. The M3’s V8 is a high revvin one that will require some more attention, and IMO be more fun.

And with the M3s torque, work this one out.

85% of the torque is available from 2000RPM.

There is a 6500RPM band for 85%of the torque.

That means there should still be 250lbs of torque (85%) at 8500RPM.

M3s redline is 8300RPM.

Anyone else see what I’m on about…

The RS4 is the M3’s main competition right? That car has 315lbs of torque and no-ones complaining about that. Thats only 20lbs more than the M3 and as previously said the M3 has it over a 6500RPM band. Don’t discount this car!!! numbers don’t tell the whole story…

Wow, you should really get your basics right before commenting here. Horsepower is a measurement of torque at any given RPM. Torque output IS half of what makes a car powerful. The other half is sustaining a high torque curve and gearing. Horsepower is NOT a physical force of any kind.

Who cares if it only makes 300lbs of torque? Torque is not what makes a car fast or not. HP and weight are FAR more important that torque. Lets all laugh at the F360 for only making 275lbs of torque. What a crap car for only making that amount of torque.

But really, I think this is the perfect combo of HP/torque. It allows plenty of hp, and a torque number just high enough so it will give the engine time howl.

Besides, it you really want a torque monster get an AMG or luxocruiser. I perfer sports car to have about a 125% HP/torque ratio anyway.

LightSpeed you have no idea what you are talking about. The E93 M3’s engine makes 85% tq over a 6500rpm power band, with an 8300 rpm redline. Are you suggesting that a mustang GT is a quicker car than the M3 will be? Leave. And i do believe there is a place for this car. while the M6 is a monster, it is just that….huge. If BMW has a lighter and sportier coupe offering, i think it will sell. You may counter with the M coupe, etc, but that is a very small car, and a Z9 would bridge the gap between the M and M6 i believe. of course pricing and performance will be the determining factors, so no one can know for sure.
