I realize I'm late to the game on this post but the Moparphobes were out in full force on this one. What exactly will it take for some of you people to understand that different cars are geared towards different demographics and every car is not meant to be marketed to you!? They will build this and people will buy it. Much like most of you probably poo-pooed the 300 when it came out, do you now deny that it was a flop? Just because you don't think that a car is attractive doesn't amount to anything. I'm sure there are lots of folks who don't find each of you very attractive either.

And whatever moron made the remark about the LH cars needs to get their head examined. When the were introduced they were hailed as revolutionary marvels. Whether you liked it or not the 90's were the bastion of FWD vehicles and Chrysler's cab-forward engineering caused every other auto maker to scramble back to the drawing board. Like the other poster said, If they were such crap how come there are so many still on the road today. It's not what you get what you pay for, it's you get what you take care of. My Dad still has his jet-black 96 LHS in his garage. Like myself he takes care of all maintenance on the car himself barring any computer related issues. He has over 120,000 miles on it and it still runs like the day he bought it. The paint still looks original, why? Because he actually washes is once a week and does a complete polish on it once a month just like he does on all his cars, just like I do on mine. It's not only still a real headtuner, but darn near a modern day classic.

as much as i pity saying so... chrysler does clearly NOT need the imperial right now... make a less widespread portfolio, but with clearly, smoothly, efficiently engineered cars. get a cash-cow first, THEN get a(nother) Halo like this...

a 300 will do perfectly as a top-notch sedan...

Oh wait! I'm not done yet...

"AutoNutt,

What are you talking about? The base engine for ALL LX cars is the 3.5L V6 making about 260 hp. The next up is the 5.7L Hemi , Finally the 6.1L Hemi for the SRT-8. Do you even know the basic specs of what it is you are ragging on?"

http://www.dodge.com/en/magnum/index.html

The base Magnum SE also comes with a 2.7-liter V6.

AutoNutt,

The Sebring mid-ranges with a 2.7L six.

I would think that an Imperial however should be priced at least $10K over even the 300/Charger/Magnum SRT-8. I personally am not so interested in this car as I'd never care to drive one. But the people who put together more than enough money to buy Chrysler are not idiots. They have a plan, barring the collapse of western civilization, they will get Chrysler running on all cylinders again. I just wonder if looking at what Chrysler was trying to do before the takeover will give them any useful ideas.

Chrysler was slowly digging their way out before the takeover and I have little doubt that if a smarter company had taken control of Chrysler, they might be in a far better position than even GM is right now.

That said, this upheaval has taken place only in the last week. Huge companies like this take time to move visibly. More time than a "Mom&Pop" store is needed and with all the troubles that face Detroit, if they turned it all around overnight I would be worried. As it is I'm optimistic, and if you are some kid under 20, you got time. Look forward past the next rise to the future. That's how Detroit got beat down and it is how Detroit will come back.

LOL at those overunionized idiots who suddenly reversed their decision to build it. They were offered a new deal: Take a $115/wk pay cut or lose your job altogether

Look at those unskilled monkeys ready to eat their own feces to stay alive! LOL!!!! IT feels good to be educated and in demand!!!!

Chrysler has had to make a decision about the 300 lineup for a long time.. the current range bases under $25K with a miserable 2.7 liter V6 and competes with Crown Vic, Avalon, Azera and even Dodge's own Charger, which gets a larger engine than the 300 in its base guise. To get anything resembling luxury or performance, the price quickly creeps up and suddenly the SRT8 is a $50-60K proposition. By confirming the Imperial, the 300 is now resigned to the lower price ranks I was hoping they would abandon when the Sebring came online.. and will never command the resale values and respect that a truly premium Chrysler 300 could have achieved.

I would rebut that but it's true, Daimler Benz did not do most of Chrysler's Non-Benz derived cars a favor but demanding profits at the cost of using lower quality materials.

But Quality aside, which is a given, Chrysler can't get any leaner, Cerberus basically put their foot down on the unions so things should, given a few years, become more cost effective, so the only thing left is building stuff that will make money.

The Imperial is not a car most people would buy and I doubt Chrysler under Cerberus will build many per year. Besides it's a car to be driven in not drive. That's the 300. Then again... I am going to be so sick of seeing this car so fast.

Now if they can get some mid-sized or small cars that are at least as good as the LX cars have been and push those like it's the end of... wait it almost is.

Anyway, some forward movement is always a good sign even if you don't agree with the direction.

Get Real,

Two things.

One)The LH worked, your opinion can not change that. Most of them are still around and plugging away like they were nearly new. Even the first gen LH cars are still running, those that were actually cared for like one is supposed to.

Two) I did say build it better. The 1999 Charger concept showed that the car could be made better.

That said, you should try treating your car like you want to keep it instead of like an old pair of shoes. Even the best made cars ever still need to be cared for. If you can't get that through your thick skull then every car you could ever buy is junk. Simple I think even if you can't.

The LH was "lean and light" because it was garbage.

They designed it then took any quality out of it, no wonder it was lean and light.

I purchased one brand new, and spent thousands keeping it running until I gave up on it and sold it.

Chrysler...... always breaking, breaking all the time.

I would focus on stabilizing Chrysler first before swinging for the fences. This may end up being a costly move, one that Chrysler can't afford.

This should be interesting. It'll put FORD on notice about the Town Car for sure. But I would have expected something along the lines of the 1960s and 1970s Imperials, and not as some have said, "a Bentley knock off/rip-off."

Working with their past seems to work well for Chrysler.

I think Cerberus may be thinking of going up scale, in steps, or bringing ultra high cost vehicles closer to Earth with this one as a start. Time will tell.

Still looking for a sportier, leaner replacement for the Charger. The 1999 concept was a great idea before the takeover. The Lean light LH rebuilt as a RWD with a V8. Low, light, sleek, and sweet.

Build the Gladiator and the Rescue and ditch the Compass and Patriot Keep the wrangler series and the Grand Cherokee. That's all they need.

Seriously sort through those concepts and start bring the best bets to market. Bring back the LH, but make it better. Bring back the NEON or something very similar. With those make them Serial Hybrid capable.

and

Build the ME412 and a newer better Viper and RACE THEM!

Okay that said, This Imperial will likely be the fleet limo for the next 10-20 years. Make it HUGE make proud and make it right.

If it is only $5000 - $7000 more, it'll sell, but I'd bet 75% of the sales were cannabilized from the 300. Not the smartest move.

Now that there can be competition with Mercedes (at least in lower categories, to be realistic), the Chrysler brand does not have to be forced into having only non-luxury products. So, it's time for the Imperial.
