Hmm ones that think Datsun ugh, or why bring back that name or whatever apparently never drove one or have had the oppurtunity to be beat by one.

I have owned several of the Z line, the last two I have had being the fastest.

I would think that any car you can buy that still looks good, keeps up with the newest Vette and well would mostly stomp pretty much all on the road at over 200k on the stock block is a good car.

I bought my last 280ZX Turbo for 2500, I put into it about 2000. I drove it for 3 years. Raced it at the track, impressed many and sold it for 6000 on ebay. How can you go wrong there?

Datsun should only be on small fairly light rwd cars(imo). The 510, a new 240Z. On the Cube or anything to compete with the trendy, artsy, whatever Scions, would be a waste of a great name.

I would say that datsun is irrelevant, but it's no dumber a name than scion, and a few people would immediately recognize it as sub-nissan, which in this case, is actually a good thing since that's how they'd use it. The Cube is an obvious alternative to the xb, and the xb is doing very well, so why not? If you were one of the many people buying xb's, wouldn't your particular interests also be met with the Cube, and as a funky "datsun," no less? There was that weird lightweight 350z chassis-based concept in detroit that might spin-off a car, although one probably more conventionally styled...I think that might make an interesting datsun.

Had a '81 Datsun 810 (Maxima). Great car that had some kooky broad reminding me whenever I left the lights on. I welcome Datsun back and hope they don't spontaneously combust like the current crop of Altimas.

"one of the most appropriate models would be the Nissan Cube from Japan."

...and a new 2500lb Datsun 510 and a new Silvia RWD turbo coupe sold under the Datsun brand.

Keep pestering Nissan as a horde and they'll eventually have to sell a proper Silvia in the States no matter what you call it.

Yeah, no Nissan Cube. On the other hand, for those who say you had to be born 30 years ago to appreciate it, I'm 19 and I love all the Datsuns I've seen. They look italian.

Datsun was the only Japanese brand I respected. But to think the brand would possibly be used on a Nissan Cube makes me lose all respect for a once great nameplate.

the Datsun Cube? WTF!?!?!? of course it'll become irrelevant. When one thinks of Datsun, for those that know, we think of the 240Z and its resemblance to the Ferraris of the day. Make compact little sports cars that are cheap, light, and small 4-bangers. A cool, Miata is a market. Then expand to four seat versions, and other compacts. That is a youth market the youth will want, not the highschooler's mom trying to be young again...

Just about all the '70s Datsuns had strange shaped rear windows, except maybe the Z. Remember the F-10? Just thinking about it makes me shiver. But yeah, the first North American 200SX was pretty strange looking; then when it was redesigned it became one of the better-looking '80s Nissans.
