To most folks, a Ferrari is, by definition, an exclusive automobile. But for some wealthy car enthusiasts, a standard F430 or even an Enzo won’t cut it. That’s where coachbuilding comes in — the process of creating a custom car on top of an established platform. According to a new report, Ferrari is planning to again offer a coachbuilding service: something it hasn’t done in decades.
The Italian automaker is expected to team up with design firms Pininfarina, Fioravanti, and Zagato for the project, AutoWeek has reported. The first one-off models — penned by Fioravanti — will likely be shown to the public later this year, the report claims. Fioravanti was instrumental to ten Ferrari designs between 1965 and 1984.
For now, customers will be able to commission custom F430, 612 Scaglietti, and Enzo supercars. It’s not known if the 599 Fiorano or California platforms will eventually be eligible for customization. All the cars are expected to hit seven figures.
Nearly two years ago, Ferrari and Pininfarina famously built a custom Enzo for U.S. car collector James Glickenhaus, receiving much fanfare in the automotive press. Valued at over $3 million, the vehicle was inspired by the P4 racer of the 1960s. See our gallery below from 2006 of the P4/5 for an idea of what to expect.

I wish Honda used this opportunity to spice up it’s lineup. They have the means, only if they would look back on their designs and get wisdom to do so.

Ferrari consulting can ruin its name only if they produce sub-par design.

I hope ALL manufacturers do this! Most cars sold today perform but they lack looks. Tuning companies try their best, but are still limited by the original car’s frame!
I’m not a Ferrari fan, but I give them a 10+ for this decision! Good job!

the designer is obviously still stuck sometime between the years 1965 and 1984.

this news reminded me of the 375 MM “Ingrid Bergman” which has a striking resemblance with Scaglietti Ferraris they build now.

The article that talks about the conception and production of that P4/5 is in one of last year’s car mags (I read the major ones, can’t remember which it was).
The guy who commissioned it is a douchebag of epic proportions. In the photos, you see pictures of his pimply, closet-homo son hanging around, staring at the Italian-designer guy’s crotch in every shot. Just nasty.

That’s great for those that can afford it. I won’t deny that I’m slightly jealous that there are people in this world with enough money to commission Ferrari to build a one off car. Amazing.
