Sigh... I had high hopes that this car would be great in North America. Being built in Mexico isn't such a bad thing its just that Chrysler quality has been suspect for so long and Fiat has never been well revered. I drove a 500 in Italy not long ago and it was a blast! You don't need a lot of horsepower to whip this thing around corners. If the 500 comes in that Ferrari-Loaner model they put out last year, I may wander down to my local Chrysler (Fiat? Whatever!) and have a look.

Great - so U.S. taxpayers paid for Chrysler so that Fiat could own it for free, and now this will help the Mexicans and the Italians.

Makes sense to Obama and Congress though....

elantra_touring how do you know Alfa's quality is poor? Last decade Alfas are as reliable as every other car. Many people own one and i ensure you they have no problem at all. Most Alfa owners keep them for 5 to 10 years.

So Chrysler -- a part-Italian company -- takes our tax money and decides to employ autoworkers in Mexico? . . . Nice. . . Shouldn't there been a stipulation that said if you take the taxpayers' money, you have to create more jobs in the U.S.?

Fiat not so much as Alfa does build some really desirable cars, I must admit Alfa's have amazing driving dynamics that surpass most other euro luxury brands. I visit europe frequently and have had the pleasure of driving a few Alfa's as I am a fan of Italian cars. However I guess its a give and take scenario as you get great performance, handling and a really attractive/sexy design but you also get poor reliability/below average and thats why sales of Alfa's are not as good as say Audi, Bmw, Mercedes in europe. Fiat on the other hand only makes two desirable cars the 500 and Grand Punto in my opinion. People do love the 500 for its design/handling but we will have to wait and see if there is any improvement in reliability. Fit and finish also havent been a stong point for Fiat/Alfa compared to other european brands.

Elantra, please quantify your quality statement regarding fiat. Fiat builds some of the most desirable cars in the world. The 500 was Europes 2008 car of they year. In the prior 9 years, 2 alfas and another fiat also have been awarded car of the year. Unless quality isnt considered, I'd say that Fiat has turned quality issues around.

maybe it comes with the taco incentive package if it's built in mexico.
At least it is built in Toluca, that is a pretty good city for Mexico. Kinda like the Boston of Mexico

I own 3 alfa's and 2 lancia and they are all great cars. Anyone questioning their quality has not owned one and is falling back to the 70's when they had a bad rap for rust. Get over it, the 500 will have 40 MPG without being a hybrid. That means an affordable car both good for the economy and the environment.

Why the heck would someone buy a car with an upside badge? Not only did it get out of the factory, it got by the dealers car prep, the sales team, and your blind neighbor. An upside down badge is a 5 min fix, so I smell a BS statement.

I know Fiat is bad quality already, but being built in Mexico at a Chrsler plant?? Three wrongs dont make a right. Fiat is the Chrsler of Europe, worst of all the manufacturers, they are lucky they came out with the 500 as it helped them at least increase market share. This whole Chrysler/Fiat thing wont last, but at least it helps Chryler stay alive. Chrsler and Mercedes didnt last long either.

Chrysler is known for making floaty american land boats, dirt cheap interiors, and kinda-decent trucks, but not superminis. I just don't see the marketing connection here, might as well market it as a Fiat and call it a day. Cry-Co's smallest cards in recent history....Neon and PT have been so horrible jesus himself couldn't turn that water into wine.

A neighbor down the street bought a new PT Cruiser. The Chrysler emblems were put on upside down. you have to wonder how this can happen after being in production for what 8 years now?
Hopefully everything under the hood was assembled correctly.
