Report: Ford planning to cut 6,000 jobs

08/18/2006, 12:03 PM

By admin

Following its announcement of a 21 percent cut in production, Ford may eliminate 6,000 salaried jobs next month, according to a Bloomberg source familiar with the plan. The reductions equate to about 16 percent of the white-collar workforce at Ford. “Things are going to get worse before they get better,” David Healy, an analyst with Burnham Securities Inc. in Sierra Vista, Arizona, said yesterday. “All of the earnings estimates being published on Ford right now are basically worthless.” Earlier this year, Ford announced plans to layoff 30,000 workers and close 14 manufacturing facilities by 2012.

Short term this is a great decision, but long term it won’t do ****. If Ford wants to turn a profit they need to do more then cut expenses, they need to sell CARS, and sell cars without dealer incentives and price slashing.

^^Yes, but Ford has good long term plan in place – The first thing Fields did when he took over was fix the product that is in the pipeline .. but it will not show up before 09 model year, so Ford needs to cut costs t oget there …

Besides, Ford has a lot of fat in its bureaucracy – this will only help ..

However, I will agree – if the product coming down the pipeline (All new 2010 focus, 2010 B-cars, 2009 Fairlane, 2009 MKS, 2009 redesigned Mustang, 2009 F150 etc) are not top notch, this will not do jack, but postpone the inevitable.

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE Ford doing good but the way their going there not going to get any where… well actually yes they will get somewhere but that place will be down below. I don’t see any bold moves like they say in their campain, it’s JUST an ADD. Nothing more than that. They have spent too much time on certain models such as the Ford Mustang (all seven or eight of it’s variations) and some time on the F series and Fusion. ALL of their other models are totally neglected. Of course we’d all love to see Ford doing good, but it’s not.
And also everyone talking about Mark Fields haircut, THIS ISN’T about his frickin haircut. I’m sure there are a few three year olds among us… and happily that isn’t me or the few of us that aren’t haters… median please.
Anyways back on track yes Ford is going to cut costs and build up for the upcoming years (2009-10 models) but in the meantime they should still try to make profit, and work on their other (bland) models.

I wonder if Ford’s executives have taken pay cuts to help in their plans to cut costs….Just curious if they have because I have not heard anything of this. Also I agree with the others that Ford has to have some good products in the pipeline, ones that are willing to give us some good design and quality and value for the money. They need to go ahead and price accordingly their new models so they can shy away from those typical deep discounting things they do oh to well and too often, ruining the resale values of their cars.
