I don’t care who had the concept first, it still looks like a 300C. As a far as the power is concerned, I am encouraged that Ford may finally be getting the idea. It remains to be seen how their v6 twin turbo concept holds up in comparision to other twins like the 911 turbo. It also remains to be seen if there is any longevity to the engine. Meantime, cadillac is wiping the floor with ford. Like I (and others) have said—it is about time. By the way, I hate GM AND FORD

v6=pits… for luxo cars… need that smooth rev and lots of low end torque… NO forced induction, and NO balancing shafts. turbo v6 is great for a noble, stupid for a lincoln. longitudinal big-cube v8 please….

ford 427 concept was great
lincoln continental concept (’02) was great… the new lincoln grille worked on the thunderbird-based lincoln MKX concept from ’01 or ’03… whatever happened to the 49? dammit ford

seriosly ford needs to grow some balls and do shit like this. The more you risk the higher the dividends will be. Oh and not everything needs to be rwd. while i like rwd and would love to drift and powerslide around i can imagine the average buyier doesnt want that.

Ford F-ed up doubly with the 2002 Continental concept.. had they built it right away they would have beat the Chrysler 300 to the punch, and they could have prevented Bentley from proliferating the Continental name across its own range. Now the concept looks slightly dated (but it’s still the right idea for a new flagship Lincoln) and it’s too late for Ford to use the Continental name (unless they want to fight VW for it).

Seems Lincoln are to late. Any thunder this car could have generated would have already been taken by the very similiar looking Chrysler 300C. What makes it even worser is that people are turning away from bigger cars for more fuel efficient cars lighter cars. Shame because it could have been a big hit.

LISTEN UP!!!

This Lincoln Concept was conceived and toured the auto show circuit WAY BEFORE THE CHRYSLER 300C!!! So, it is NOT a copycat! And it is also damn attractive as I saw it when it was making the rounds at the auto shows.

If Lincoln is smart they will REALLY consider and produce a car of this class and configuration as they are in NO position to be giving us “teaser” designs that they never put into production.

And BTW, I agree that is should not be called an “MK” whatever stupid letter designation… whose dumb idea was that anyway???

The pic above is of the Lincoln Continental concept which previewed at the LA Autoshow in 2002, along with the companion Lincoln MK Coupe. Development of the concept started in 2000.

guys, this concept was out before the 300.

and i hope that Lincoln gets some serious R&D money soon cause this is a great idea. They want to differentiate from Ford and Merc, so they take a Ford AU platform (a real solid one, too), Americanize it, and give it the Lincoln star.

FINALLY!

For the last three years I’ve been saying Lincoln is missing a huge market with a new Continental. The 300 brought back the RWD Luxury car, and has been one of the biggest success stories of any automaker from Detroit.

A new Lincoln Continental with the rear suicide doors and 20′s (Although not my particular cup of tea.) would be a big success. All those folks who bought a Chrysler 300C when it was introduced may be looking to trade up by now.

Man that Continental concept was sexy. I remember when Ford come out with a few RWD concepts, like the 427 and this Continental. Those where such big, beautiful designs with that American Presence that too many american cars today lack. I miss that about Ford, GM, and to an extent Chrysler. These kinds of designs dont even have to be sedans, they could be coupes as well (something that america used to kick ass at).

Personally, I don’t care about manufacturing costs. I dislike front wheel drive and I’d like to never own a FWD car ever again. This includes any economy cars I might buy.

If ANY manufacturer wants my money, they’d better offer RWD or some pretty good version of AWD that does not have front wheel bias. It doesn’t have to be powerful, but it does have to turn the rear wheels most of the time.

Ford should invest in ways to package front engine, rear drive in nearly all of its cars or perhaps look into the mid-engine rear drive concepts that Honda occasionally uses for more interior room.

looks alright i guess, rims look kinda big for the body and the rear bumper ends kind of early….and the door handles for the back doors seem to be right next to the handles on the front doors…suicide doors maybe?

It’s unfortunate the only American car manufacturer that is offering a sedan with RWD on a more than limited basis is Chrysler. I say it’s unfortunate because the Magnum, 300C, Charger, and soon to be Challenger are all 2 ton behemoths with outdated and underperforming engines. Why is there such a disconnect between luxury and core brands? Is it that much more expensive to manufacture a RWD versus FWD? Is it even more expensive period?? When the CEOs are held accountable for their decisions, the right products at the right price will hit the market. Until then, companies like Ford will continue to lose billions.

In the past 5 years we’ve seen a number of great looking Lincoln concepts. With the exception of maybe some grill work todays models have no resemblance to those great designs. Lets hope they don’t ‘cry wolf’ yet again…
