12/07/2006, 5:13 PM

General Motors is planning to offer a Denali V8 version of its new GMC Acadia crossover, according to Popular Mechanics. Auto writer Ben Stewart claims to have spoken with a GM representative who indicated an Acadia Denali would arrive for the 2009 model year.

t’s unclear if GM plans to offer the V8 powerplant in its other Lambda platform crossovers, which include the Buick Enclave and Saturn Outlook.

Soo, gay!! I thought GM produced these new crossovers to help with gas……. guess not!!!!

GM is incapable of doing something great, toyota-like. But noooo, it makes it look like GM is telling everybody that we don’t deserve fuel efficent vehicles.

May GM die!

Seriously, if you want fuel efficiency, I’m sure they’ll be putting the two mode hybrid in this thing at some point. It’s not a bad thing to give people choices.

Haha, the Denali badge is fitting for large, truck based, thuggin SUV’s like the Yukon , or even the Sierra pickup, you know what I mean they’ve got the bling factor, but the Acadia? Might as well pimp a Toyota Highlander or a Ford Freestyle.

And yeah this will just make it a gas hog

Buick will probably get a V8 as well (Enclave Super?)…I’d be surprised if the Saturn got one.

Oh like Toyota doesn’t make gas-guzzling SUV and crap trucks (FJ Cruiser). PLEASE!!!! The v6 would be your choice then, and mine too. I don’t need a V8 in it, but would welcome the option.

Why do so many people care about what other people get for gas milage? If I can afford to fill it up, then I can drive it. If your s60 gets better mileage, so what? You probably drive more than I do in a month, so you actually CONSUME MORE than I do! Sheesh!

I hope this powerplant comes with AWD standard, otherwise it’d be a waste of power on the front wheels.

I agree with century24.. the Enclave is calling out for the V8 (and the corresponding additional porthole on each side of the hood), but I doubt the Outlook will get it.

I would like to see the Buick get the V8 instead of the acadia and the outlook, It would make a lot more sense

I find it ludicrus that ppl complain about the milage this thing gets if u want eficency then buy urself a light small car. I don’t think u can get cars in the ford fiesta or opel corsa size in the usa, but if u want fuel economy thats what u gotta have. anyways toyta is not the bloody holy grail of automobiles. I am curently studying Automotive engineering with motorsports as my university degree, and half of my lecturers take the piss out of the prius. they say its a piece of junk that just seems eco friendly due to marketing but that it is actually much more wasteful than even a hummer.

dumbasses!!! Im not talking about peeps can or cannot afford to fill up or whatever. I’m talking about IMAGE of the car company. When somebody says Toyota or Honda, what comes to ur head?? Fuel efficent vehicles.

If GM doesnt want to be known as making gas guzzling vehicles, they should not offer V-8 engines in their new crossovers.

The most exciting piece of information here is that this V8 will be one of GM’s new “Ultra V8″ engines. The “Ultra” is supposed to replace the ancient Northstar. GM is learning quickly, and this engine should have all the latest technology. With direct injection and active fuel management, this engine should be relatively efficient for its size.

GM’s big problem is that it’s got 8 brands to feed. That’s how it got its gas guzzling reputation to begin with. Whether you think they badge engineer or not, they have a lot of versions of the same type of vehicle. Example: All of the GMT360s (Trailblazer, Envoy, Rainier, 9-7x) are all basically the same car. The GMT800-turned-900s (Tahoe, Yukon, Escalade, Suburban, Yukon XL, ESV) are all basically the same car. That said, however, they are perceived as being different cars, when in reality they are just different interpretations of a Trailblazer or a Tahoe. So when ALL of these vehicles aren’t very efficient, instead of GM having 2 inefficient trucks, they are seen as having 10 distinct, inefficient trucks. With more brands and high demand comes the need to ramp up your volume, hence more of them on the road, hindering the image. And I didn’t even mention the pickups. Throw in an otherwise inconsequential H2 and GM becomes an easy target and the poster child for gas guzzlers, when in reality Ford, Dodge, and Toyota all have equally inefficient models (Expedition, Navigator, Durango, Land Cruiser, 4Runner, Sequoia, LX, GX). Trouble is, it’s easier to generalize GM cars as gas guzzlers than to use your heads and realize they’re no more guilty than anyone else.

Hey! Let’s all buy Honda Insights! Anything more, and we hate the environment! Wanting to accelerate in hilly areas is superfluous!

Never mind that some have families of eight who need to tow a trailer and want more torque, or that people can buy whatever the heck they want. It’s a free country, and GM wouldn’t offer it if they didn’t sell a single car with it in there.

Let’s be reasonable here, guys.

century24,
It’s refreshing to see logic brought into this. I was beginning to think that the whole world had turned stupid. Alas, nobody here is likely to change their opinion of said company.

so its perfectly acceptable for BMW to take an efficient inline-6 and dump it from their new M3 for a V8, yet its wrong that GM is giving you the OPTION of getting a more powerful engine? Shut the hell up.
im sure a V8 acadia will still get better mileage than a V8 Tahoe/Yukon of equal specs. And god forbid GM gives you an option, dont complain, and dont buy it if you dont want it. Like everyone else with half a brain has stated, Denali lines are luxo-cruisers and no self respecing person would want a powerless one. Thats what buick is for.

and the Enclave V8 and Acadia Denali surely target two entirely different market segments… so theyll probably both end up with the V8.

^^What you said about options is a good point. GM offers more variants and choices than most other automakers, and it’s BECAUSE of that (not in spite of it) that some people prefer to buy GM vehicles. Case in point: I looked at a Subaru Outback a few years ago, and the only way I could get leather seats & a 6-CD changer was to buy a whole bunch of other crap I didn’t want/need at a much higher cost. GM usually lets you pick & choose as you desire when ordering a vehicle (and yes, people do actually order vehicles). This helps customers get exactly what they want. What’s wrong with that?!

Go GM! More Gas guzzling V8’s for the road, wooho! Love it! They should make the V8 standard for all the Lambda’s and then they should rebadge the model for Pontiac, Saab, Chevy and even Cadillac. Dump the stupid weak-assed V6 and put the V8 in everything!

Thank you GM for your continued dedication to fuel consumption.

Oh and while you at it GM, I think we need to see a couple of new Hummer models because the lineup is a bit short. How about something like a new H1 with a the 16 cylinder engine from the Caddy concept a while back? Or an extended length H2 EL with 7 passenger seating?

Here’s a first, how about a class first 10 passenger SUV? Something with maybe 4 rows of seating, 7 access doors and dual axles in the rear. I know a few trophy wives that would look so sexy driving around in one of those! it would be an Elite class of buyers who appreciate the size, utility and superior visibility of such a truck.

Call it the H0…

A4, I don’t see why people should attack BMW for putting a v8 into the m3. There’s actually a reason for it… performance. It’s a sports car and it should be fast.

The difference here is: how much freakin’ power do you need in a damn suv/crossover? There’s no purpose! Most of these are going to be driven by soccer moms that don’t haul trailers around behind them everyday. Besides, this thing isn’t something you should be driving the same way as you’d probably drive an m3.

For what the Acadia is, I honestly don’t think they need anything more than a v6.

Actualy deantj, a huge majority of scientists around the globe agree that global warming is indeed a reality. It’s total ignorance and naivity to say that it’s not, the effects are right in front of our eyes, and the fact of the matter is that almost all scientists agree its happening. Yes, you can find a few that disagree, but they’re 1/1,000. God damnit man, look at the facts, I can’t understand why people live in denial about stuff like this, it’s science, it’s proven, this isn’t a guessing game, it has been PROVEN, if you want me to find the info for you, I will, but this is the 21st century, open your eyes and see what’s happening around you, or if you want, I guess you can climb back into your little hole and close your eyes, and pretend like it’s all a myth like the conservatives would like you to believe.

Chevy490: you’re a moron, there you go insulting your oh so hated “tree huggers”, and yet you come across as the biggest jackass on this site. Learn how to spell, learn how argue your side intelligently, and maybe someone will take you seriously.

Comment by S-60-driver: Little better but has the boring, generic look to it. Try again, GM!

Comment by 1952 MG TD: I’m up for someone taking a photo of me as I leak, looks a bit like my butthole after I have been reamed by deantj

Comment by bun_a_gm: It’s hideous. Lose the GM badge, Please. GM is ****. FACE IT. The Japanese have this market. Period.

Comment by leozug: wow. they’ve done a really good job of being absolutly boring and unimaginative. good work. next…all i have to say is, “another boring, cookie cutter, XXXXXX . Whooptie-Freaking-Doo.”

Comment by BrokenCadillac: Looks like GM’s truck designers took a crack at a sedan… Two thumbs way down.

Comment by YourNameHere: zZzZzZzZ that gotta do better then that if they want ppl to pay attention to it to expand…its ugly. just plain ugly. not even interesting, attention getting, a special kinda person, ugly. those kinda cars still sell…this is just plain ugly
Comment by GarbageMotorsCo: The only thing this is going to “crush” is your GM “faithfuls” hearts when this thing comes to market and it’s biggest customer is Avis Rental Car.
Comment by LamborghiniZ: GM does make inferior products, thats why the Malibu and G6 are PATHETIC competitors to the Accord, Camry, Altima, Mazda 6, etc. This isn’t “anti-fanboy” anything, I’m a realist, and I’m being realistic here when I say the Malibu hasn’t ever been, and I doubt will be, any competition for the best in the segment.
Comment by YourNameHere: i will laugh at anyone that pays sticker for one of these….hell i will laugh at anyone that pays more then 3,000 under sticker
Comment by ArchAngel: This car looks ugly as usual from GM. The grill is large and obtrusive. The exhaust tips in the back look large which makes looks good. The taillights look ugly. I would rather buy a Toyota Camry or a Honda Accord. “
