Jaguar parent company Tata Motors has given the green light to plans for a two-door XF coupe and a ragtop XF convertible, according to a British media report. The new models will make Jag increasingly competitive with the wide range of cars offered by BMW and Mercedes-Benz .
The two-door XFs will do battle with the forthcoming Mercedes E-Class Coupe and Convertible, and the next-generation 6-Series from BMW . The cars will be priced aggressively against those models, in part to offer consumers a more cost effective alternative, and also to keep enough space between the XF and XK lineups.
An XF coupe has long been expected, but a convertible model seemed unlikely until recently. All said both vehicles will probably arrive in 2010 as 2011 models, reports AutoExpress.
The high-performance XFR designation will eventually find its way onto the coupe and convertible, but it’s not known how soon that will happen. The XFR sedan is expected to debut before even the entry-level two-door models arrive.
