After making its initial debut in concept form at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show, Land Rover ’s LRX compact SUV will finally make production in 2011. Land Rover confirmed the LRX was moving from concept to production vehicle last year.
Land Rover has officially announced the LRX will begin production during the third quarter of 2011. The LRX will make its first public appearance in production form at this fall’s Paris Motor Show, followed by a United States debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this year.
Pricing for the LRX was not announced, but the compact SUV is expected to carry a premium over Land Rover ’s smallest offering, the LR2. In order to better reflect that pricing premium, the LRX will be sold under the company’s Range Rover banner.
No technical details on the LRX have been released but, as Leftlane reported last year, the LRX is expected to debut with a forced-induction motor, possible with as few as four-cylinders. Whatever engine winds up under the hood of the LRX, it is expected to be the most fuel-efficient Land Rover offering to date.
