rich folks can spend $400,000+ to have a bunch of electrical, fanciful, gizmos to any type of car. Big deal. Maybach had all of that stuff but was missing that spark, that ‘it’ factor that would have made it a truly special car…Maybach brand was just an exercise in cynical marketing.

Yeah, but East Coast Rappers drive these things, and East Coast Rappers wouldnt dare put Daytons on a car.

Plus when we at Hyundai stole their design 15 years ago, we cheapened their image. If Hyundai was to create a 3rd Brand it should be a dirt cheap Maybach. Ive studied the Landaulet, the Equus makes this car look like a joke.

The guy from Audi calls the Volt a car for idiots? The Maybach is REALLY a car for idiots. High time it was put down… but what’s the point of “winding down” a marque like this, when sales will fall further as soon as word gets out? Why not just shut her down… today?

These vehicles were at the top of their class in any category; the styling was boring, the luxury features were all available elsewhere, the performance was lacking and the price was outrageous.

IMO the marque’s high-profile buyer’s list may also have limited it’s appeal. Who wants to be seen in the same car that Sean John Puff Daddy P Diddy Puffy Combs is known for favoring? Plain and simple, the Maybach appealed more to the nouveau riche than heads of state.

one of the stumbling blocks to being a runaway success ,was that it looked like an S class gone wrong. i never really understood why they didnt think that would hurt sales. as for the resale value of these unwanted behemoths? i shudder to think…

Not surprising considering the current Maybach never lived up to Daimler’s expectations selling significantly fewer than Rolls Royce. Automobile quotes their sales at less than a third of Rolls Royce’s. Plus the fact that probably due to the economy and lack luster sales they never developed any of the new models they had promised. Remember there was supposed to be a 4 door or 4 seater coupe and a SUV that never materialised.
