Just after the standard coupe’s launch earlier this year, we were surprised to learn that Mercedes-Benz had no plans for a high-performance variant of its all-new E-Class coupe, but a rumor indicates that a 500-horsepower plus E63 AMG Black Series might be in the plans after all.
4Wheels News indicates that an E63 Black Series powered by a high performance variant of the AMG V8 is under development by the Stuttgart, Germany, automaker. The site reports that the model would pump out more than 505 horsepower, which would be a small increase over the outgoing CLK63 AMG Black Series.
The site doesn’t offer any more details on the car, but we’d also expect an E63 AMG Black Series to feature light-weight body panels, sports seats, a firm suspension and an exclusive list of owners.
Why Mercedes-Benz would produce an E63 AMG Black Series coupe and not a standard E63 AMG coupe is up in the air, however. The automaker reportedly said that it had canned the high-performance coupe to focus on the E63 AMG sedan and the CLS63 AMG, the swoopy four-door “coupe.”
