SVT is not going anywhere, there marketing has just moved under the “ford Racing” umbella. I don’t know which maker it will be but it seems there are quite a few idiots posting here who are anti-NASCAR … while F1 is a cool, it’s not difficult, the computers control pretty much everything leaving the driver to only sit there and turn the wheel left or right … not to mention the amount of laps they run … seems like there is enough room in the racing world for all types of racing. If you want to pick a form of racing worth watching it’s w/o a doubt Drag racing !!!

P.S. NASCAR doesn’t only run oval tracks … they do run road races. : D

I say Dodge….. Ford & GM already commented they are committed to Nascar. Plus I heard Roush will be the new SVT arm of Ford.

My bet is Pontiac. This makes perfect sense since they are part of GM and not many drive them anymore. I seriously doubt Chevy will drop out because of so many fans like Earnhardt Jr., Gordon, and Stewart.

GM needs the money, bad, winner or no winner. So it would make sense for them to pull out for financial reasons only.

Ford could be looking at what’s best for the company for long term growth. It wouldn’t be a surprise to me if it was them.

DCX could be considering it for the fact that the execs are saying that it is a big waste of money since no one has been consistently winning and they’ve lost interest and too much money.

So I say it could be any of the three, if it is true at all…

Lastly, the fact that Toyota is joining NASCAR would have nothing to do with this, it isn’t like they would have any competitve edge. NASCAR regulates all the specs of the cars, and quite frankly they really bear nothing other than some stickers that make them distantly resemble a production model they make. The engines that Toyota will use, like in the trucks are actually made by one of a few engine builders who back the teams. The Big Three actually were forced by NASCAR to provide engines to Toyota so they could get into the series to begin with. Finally, I’m sure some manufacturer’s execs are sitting around going; “OOOO! We are _so_ scared Toyota is joining NASCAR, we better quit!”…right… Toyota has been in the NASCAR Craftsman truck series for over two years now and is no more competitive than GM, Ford or DCX.

Regardless of who pulls out of NASCAR,( or any other auto racing venue), it’s always due to finacial “adjustments”. Auto racing at any level may or may not sell new cars. However, it keeps the corporate buzzwords, that the companies love so much, in our thoughts. When I raced in the late 60’s and early 70’s, it wasn’t as simple as everyone who wasn’t there would like to have thought. It wasn’t cheap either…nuthin’ has changed much, just the language for the most part.

there is almost no chance gm will lreave nascar… they just won their 29th manufacturers championship in 34 years.
and nascar fans are still loyal enough to buy from the brand they root for… so it still sells.
i could see maybe dodge leaving, they only have 6 wins since the charger model came out, but it was improving…
and i dunno how credible this ‘autoextremist’ site is… jayski.com is typically the only good source for nascar rumors, and hes got nothing on manufacturers LEAVING…

My money is on Ford. To me, they are the most savvy of the domestics, and with the Ford family has the most to lose on a personal level.

Decals do not a race car make. Or something that. NASCAR stopped being fun 20 years ago as the “race on Sunday, sell on Monday” became less evident.

I’d love to see someone start up a sucessful super stock league.

Finally, Jonas, I hate to disagree with a fellow reader, but DCX quality is still far behind Ford and GM, especially on component integrity. Their ratings have only recently crept upwards as the DC effect has taken hold. Although I hated the idea at first, looking back at the dire straits Chrysler was in around ‘97 & ‘98, it has become evident that they may not have made it without DC lending a hand. Now of course, we know Chrysler group has recently been bailing DCX out.

These are interesting days….

In response to Leland’s post… Ford is the only company of the 3 that is still “Family owned”. Ford also has money set aside for tough times you don’t know about. They have plenty of liquid cash among family members to stay above water. If you look at their profits, they are huge overseas, they are just having a tough time with the US auto industry as is GM. GM however is losing overseas. Dodge I really don’t care about because they have made junk for as long as I remember.

I said GM before, but would consider Dodge a contender as well. I’m glad Toyota moved in, it obviously scared someone.

I think its Chevy…another site reported the company was going to focus on the LeMans racing…and I saw on the Chevy website where LeMans is on there. I dont keep up with Ford..so if they do Lemans too then I don’t know.

I believe it is going to be Ford. That company’s mindset is bottom line only, and will cancel any program not to their advantage. Roush is already returning to drag racing. Ford is in pretty bad shape, along with GM, but they seem to make decisions quicker. I think this is what Nascar envisions: same generic race car for all teams. BORING! I personally prefer Trans Am racing anyway, though I would love to see Nascar go back to it’s roots with no restrictions. It is way too controlled by big money operations to recover.

I’ve been told that the fans root for the MFG of the car. Doubtful. I think they follow the driver, team or the sponsor. I don’t think it’s Dodge, ‘cuz they just got back in it. Chevy seems to be the fav, so I’ll guess Ford. Any way you look at it, the “car of tomorrow” is a joke. I don’t know why any of them would “build” a cookie cutter vehicle with a few stickers on it to say it’s a GM, F, or DCX product.

GM should do it since they need all the money they can get… But I think it’s dodge, since being owned by Mercedes they probably have more class than NASCAR… Toyota is stupid for joining NASCAR… We need to make road racing big in America, you know with turns other than just lefts…

About time…..if all three would pull out maybe this “WWE of Motorsport” would get the picture. Sure it makes a great show, but it ain’t racin’
