There will not be a new Toyota Supra, according to trade publication Automotive News. “All the rumors of the two-passenger sports car’s return are false,” a new report says. Instead, it looks like the Lexus LF-A will be Toyota’s only supercar (pictured). The publication also said Toyota has delayed the launch of the Lexus IS convertible, because there were concerns over its competitiveness. Originally slated to debut alongside the IS coupe, the cabriolet may now be delayed until 2008. Lastly, the report indicates a successor to the Lexus SC 430 will arrive in 2008, using the IS/GS platform and a 4.6-liter V8. It will apparently feature “proportions and stance similar to those of a BMW 6 series.”

That’s too bad about the Supra really, the finest sportscar that Toyata ever produced. Why pay too much for a Toyata because it is badged as a Lexus, just make the Supra and leave it at that.

That’s why I refuse to support Toyota. Only one freaking sports cer in their entire 3 brand line-up and it’s a 100+k Lexus WTF!! I loved my MKII Celica Supra but after that generation Toyota ditched the sports and concentrated on luxury and it’s been downhill for enthusiasts since. Even the MKIV Supras were way more luxury oriented than their competitors like the RX-7. Looks like I’ll have to continue begging Mazda to build the Kabura, dump a turbo rotary in there, and bring back the RX-7.

Toyota really needs to inject fom fun into there line up. Maybe they should start a sports car brand and leave toyota with the everyday a to b cars. They have the youth brand (Scion), Luxury (lexus) Everyday (Toyota) then performance. it would ony need a few models. $20,000 2dr droptop(Solstice Sky) ; $30,000 RWD 2dr Coupe (rx8, 350z, Mustang) $45,000 rwd or 4wd Sport Sedan (RS4, M3)

MR2-S was fun. I guess NIssan’s Skyline is going to gobble the sport market in whatever price range it’s going to be in. Hopefully it doesn’t overlap with the G35 coupe market.

I never was interested in any car from TOYOTA. They are very innovative, but never had their face always copying other brands, specially German automakers. All TOYOTAs are just moving appliance: cheap with good quality built, which attracts all the buyers who never care of car performance. Lexus? A nice TOYOTA with BMW, MB characteristics and shapes. On the other hand Supra was very competitive and well designed car and it’s too bad its not going to reborn.

I think a Toyota Supra could compete with the 350z/G35, and RX-8 very well. Too bad… another generation of RWD twin-turbo toyotas would be nice but it won’t happen. The 2JZGTE Supra and 1JZGTE Soarers were great cars. The Soarer turned into a melted bar of soap (SC430), and the Supra is gone

I was a Toyota fan through the ‘nineties.
The Corolla used to be fun to drive, even one generation after going to FWD (the FX16 hatch and SR5 coupe). The MR2 had all the style and fun that one could ask for, the Celica was… well, not great but still fun. The Supra was impressive and served as a dream car for us Toyota fans. I was stuck with a lowly Tercel, but even that car was fun to drive for its segment (great steering feel if nothing else).
But if we ask for fun cars, they’ll say “well why didn’t you buy them when we offered them?” and I don’t know what we can say to that…

Lol, not surprising. Toyota’s lineup maybe high quality, best sellers and all that, but if there’s one thing they lack its sports cars or roadsters. Shame on them. Nissan, Mitsubishi, Honda, Mazda all have them, why not Toyota?

yes i’m 16 years old and i want the supra back. Toyota please bring a Toyota branded Supra which cost between 50K-60K so i can go out and buy one. Also make sure that the mpg is awful, esp in the current market climate. Everyone had a supra back in the day…everyone. Make a sports car not another 306hp IS, its not sporty enough
Please stop being the 2nd automaker in the world, because you clearly dont know what your doing nor do you have any real business direction. Stop making the top hybrid cars in the market, or the best selling luxury vechiles. even though the new IS recieves awards left and right, or that the RX/GS/LX are still doing well, you still suck. Please make underpowered cars like Mazda, with engines that underperform.
you are stupid blah blah blah

I call bull**** on this list. ‘Automotive news’ is full of crap and i call them out on their so called sources on this ‘news’ piece. Pure speculation on their part, and poor speculation at that. They even went on to say that the LF-A will come out with a V8 when it has already been confirmed that they are sticking with the V10… assholes……
ohhh btw, #2, the MK2 MR-2 turbo was a better sports car than the MK4 Supra, easily.

Shame about the Supra. I have great respect for Toyota Motor Co. – they are the most efficient automaker in the world in almost every respect. But they shoot themselves in the foot with their new TV ads which ask, “Can you engineer DESIRE?” The answer is quite clear and simple: NO!
YOU CANNOT ENGINEER DESIRE – this is a fact that is PROVEN by Toyota/Lexus themselves – the very ones asking the question.
Perhaps they could create some truly great cars if they were privately owned but as a public giant, they must conform to the uninspired generic-ness that defines them.

Supra’s were AMAZING cars. Trust me, I’d know haha. I’ve got a 1997 and even though it’s the naturally aspirated model, it’s still a blast to drive! I’ve never driven another car that can handle anywhere nearly as good as it can!
Unfortunetly, it needs a paint job… it’s a bit faded in a couple of areas.
I’m kinda neutral on the revival on the Supra though. What could be nicer than the MKIV Supra with such beautiful styling? I guess it’d be possible, but not likely.

Toyota dissapoints me. The seem to go out of their way to avoid sports cars. The don’t have a single fast car in their line up, with the top being a Celica GTS or MR2(both are pretty weak). A new supra would sell like crazy! Look at all of the buzz created by the rumor. I think toyota is passing up a great oppertunity and handing the market to the new Nissan GTR.

No new Supra turbo means you get no new purchase from this buyer. Bad Toyota. No green biscut
Seriously. If any Toyota exec ever reads this, please heed that YOUR PRODUCTS ARE BORING TO ME AND MANY OTHERS.
Furthermore, why on Earth should a mechanically inclined person such as myself even support your company by purchasing a brand new regular “family” Toyota if you do not make available a sports Toyota that I would very much like to buy?
I’m wasting my time even writing this.

“Carlos, apparently you haven’t driven a Celica GT-4 (All-Trac) because it was great. Affordable Turbo AWD sports coupe fun. Bring that back…”
Well no, there were hardly any of them…
I learned to drive on a 12 year old hand me down Celica ST (the lame version, tons of roll and a 3spd auto) and well, I shouldn’t even count that. The later Celicas were better, but they never got the power they should have, and more importantly they really weren’t good value for the (high) price. The last GT-S was probably the best non-All-Trac Celica, but not much quality for the buck. The hatch rattling and squeaking over bumps was kind of annoying. Anyway whatever my opinion of the Celica, it failed in the marketplace.
The Toyota brand’s sportiest vehicle now is the X-runner probably… how sad is that.

That sucks that really sucks the best sports car ever made has just prematurely vanished because of selfishness and greed. Toyata cannot see themselves making an affordable sports car for the local common folks but they are bathing in sales of the overpriced lexus line and the camry. Toyata should start thinking of the cars and the people that got them to their status and bring back the damn supra.

Toyota may not be bringing back the Supra, but will most likely design something new. Toyota wouldn’t leave an open niche in its lineup- their lineup is one of the most complete of any automaker. There are already disguised prototypes of a rear-engined sports car from Toyota running on the Nurburgring.
