The death of the Pontiac G8 is arguably one of the saddest automotive demises in recent years, but a new report suggests the G8 nameplate will live on. However, the G8 won’t be rebadged as a Chevrolet or even sold in the United States. Instead, Holden will sell a limited run of Pontiac G8s in Australia.
According to Carsales.com.au, General Motors will sell the Pontiac G8 through its Holden Australian division. The Australian-spec Pontiac G8 will be available in SS-V sedan (G8 GT), Wagon and Ute body styles, and will be sold at Holden dealerships.

Although the decision to sell the Pontiac G8 in Australia seems strange – especially since it is virtually identical to the Holden Commodore already for sale on Holden lots – the move will reportedly help GM clear out some extra inventory at the G8’s plant. The move to ax the G8 from the U.S. market has left the Holden plant with an excess of Pontiac body parts, and the limited edition models are intended to help clear out the parts bin.

The Aussie-spec Pontiac G8s will likely command a slight premium over their Holden counterparts, thanks to a limited run of about 1,500 units.
