tight as hell. perfect balance of classic porsche styling with modern looks as well. porsche needs to bring this and the panamera to expand their line-up and appeal to those who want a little more luxury rather than 100% sport.

One of the things like would like is that the 928 does NOT look like some rehash of the 911. During the 928’s time, Porsche may not have had many cars in their line-up but they had very distinct looks from each other but were instantly recognizable as Porsches.

I fear that Porsche could make this new 928 look like a 911 slightly refit for front engine. Of course it’ll be a fully developed car and not a slightly altered mistake, but it could look far less impressive than the last 928 if it did look like some alternate version of the 911.

IF they feature it, it will most propably be priced above the 911 (just like the old 928 was in its day)

I doubt theyll feature it, though. there were rumors about a new 928 even before they decided to make the cayenne…
again, not believing it until its actually in the showrooms…

Damn straight.
I’ve owned a bunch of Porsche’s, but NOTHING got more attention than my Guards Red 89 928GT. Every time I took it out, people would stop and ask me questions or take pictures. The cars still look like modern designs 30 YEARS after they were first built.
A few years back, in the Speedvision GT race series, Mark Anderson raced a mildly modified 95 928 against brand new factory race 911’s, vettes, etc. He was actually outpacing the feild until the race organizers added a few hundred pounds of lead weight to his car. I guess they didn’t want some old, discontinued car winning their little race.
I’d kill for a new, updated REAL 928!

btw ASTON MARTIN the 959 has had a successor. Between ‘96 and ‘98 they produced the GT1 and the GT1 Evo, which was like the 959 a 911 based supercar with more than 550 BPS, which won the first and sec place in ‘98 Le Mans 24h race.

Considering that the Cayman is supposed to be the “mid-line” Porsche, I highly doubt it would go below. I think it would go more on the end of an M6 fighter, just done better. So more likely to run on a detuned version of the Carrera GT V10.

They should also bring back the 944/951/968 models. After all, they’re the models who saved Porsche from financial turmoil back in the ’80’s-’90’s. They could always use VW’s future Sirocco platform for it.

This car is mythical.

If they build it, it will be the automotive event of
the century. There is no other vehicle that people would kill to see resurrected than the 928.

I’d have to agree… the DB9 is about as hot of a coupe GT you can get… Although the new Maserati Gran Turismo will be a hard contender when it comes out next year.

I think the 928 should be jmore powerful, heavier, more comfortable and less agile than the 911. Kind of a laid back tourer with gobs of torque.

Sounds good, but what if its one of those in-the-middle cars that’s not allowed to be better than the 911.
Perhaps they are aiming at a Bentley competitor, a big, luxury rather than sports coupe like the 911. It might even try to compete with that which has no rival..

The 928 will almost have to be near the 911 or above it.
They can’t go below because they will then cannibalize sales from the Cayman. Theyy could offer it at the same price point or a little bit higher. I’m thinking higher as it would be the coupe version of the Panamera which is reputed to go for 85k+. That puts this right at 90k ~
20k over the base 911

I loved the 928 and hoped it would wean Porsche AG off the 911. I hope it really happens this time, so Porsche can finally put a bigger engine in the Cayman and not worry that the 911 off the Horsepower Protection Program would not be able to stand on its own. Sales of the new 928 and the unleashed Cayman will more than make up for it.

Wow, the 928 was one of those supercars that defined the 1980’s. I saw one in the parking lot last week and it still turned heads. To me it always answered the question “What if the Germans decided to build a Corvette?”
