I find it funny that it takes more than DOUBLE the money, and arguably the best Nurburgring driver in the world, to only beat the CTS-V by a measely 3 seconds. Knowing Porsche, they probably ran with R-compound tires on that run too, like they usually do, versus the stock PS2 street tires the CTS-V ran with.

Do the math: the Panamera Turbo with ONLY performance options costs $147k. The CTS-V that was run on the Nurburgring costs $61k.

Porsche should be embarrassed.

Good luck with the Porsche. Hope you like your mechanic. The CTS-V will be like every other GM vehicle. It will be the world standard for quality, reliability and dependibility. Drive it for many hundreds of thousands of miles and NEVER have a problem with it. This German pile of sh1t will see the scrapheap by the time the warranty is expired.

Be American. Buy American. Buy GM.

It’s easy to pick up seconds in a track that big when you’re a newbie that commit mistakes, but when you are satisfied with your time, and, if you are a pilot, that means you made virtually 0 mistakes, it’s almost impossible to do so without modding the vehicle.

Funny thing is, the CTS can easily pick up about 1-1.5 seconds on a course as big as the ring. Maybe Cadillac should offer that option, and you will still be 45k under the porshe. I hope gm goes back out there and kicks their ass, if this claim is official.

The CTS-V lap was driven by John Heinricy, assistant chief engineer of the Corvette and Director of GM Performance. Engineer, yes, but he’s also a successful race driver. Retired last year though. Grats to the Panamera, but with the way manufacturers have been using the track, I would expect the record to be broken eventually.

The CTS-V is widely available with the automatic actually, they easily outsell the stick CTS-V. The 1st gen V just wasn’t available with an automatic. An automatic it is but it one helluva transmission. From what i’ve read the stick is as rare as the new M5 with a stick, the manumatic boxes just sell much more

So as a fan of the CTS-V, I’m not gonna pout and whine about it possibly being beaten. The Porsche is a fine car, just massively ugly in the back. It costs twice as much and has exit advantages with AWD.

So this would be the one to beat it. Good job Porsche if it happened officially. Bring on the 550 hp Turbo S. Has the RS6 run a time?

the king of the ring is…wait for it…ford transit van 150 diesel bhp with added duck tape for improved aero.

bear with me on this one, i´m on to something here…
a transit van in the hands of a capable driver can post a time of ten minutes.
this cars are posting eight.
so…if my math serves me right, if i get a transit van, fit it with some of those fancy tires, the fancy carbon brakes, and tune it to about the same horsepower as these 2 cars…. well, new production car record…6 minutes and 30 seconds.

I think its awome how cadillac just a year ago wasnt thought of as a benchmark for anything and now sets the benchmark for even porche, which in my opinion for the pricetag, id still rather have the ctsv. its hotter and less expensive. Deff still the benchmark. this porshe………..dont really care about. it could do the track in a minute……….still dont care.

I believe if they had the same driver for each car, they will get the same performance numbers. But the Porsche is the ugliest fvucking shi!t I’ve ever seen… right behind the PT Cruiser and the Aztec. But I’ll be damned if I pay $60k more for a car that is JUST 3 seconds faster around the ring, which should be extensively researched by a notable third party.

The reason this is news-worthy and commonly reported by automakers is because it is an excellent marketing tool. It goes back to the old “Race on Sunday, sell on Monday” philosophy, that is now sorely lacking in nearly all forms of televised motor sports. By publishing the Nurburgring times, it gives people a reason to consider that over another car with a slower time, just as people were more inclined to buy cars that won Nascar races, back when stock car racing actual meant they used a “Stock” car.

I care about Caddy because the V will outrun anything MB, AMG, or Audi can throw at it right now in terms of a 4 door sedan. I’d rather take a faulty bottom seat panel that can easily be taken care of rather then a very pricey SMG transmission too. Come on, give the V a little respect, it deserves it!
