Report: Porsche plans Roxster compact SUV

German sports car maker will expand its SUV offerings beyond the popular Cayenne to include a new compact crossover called Roxster, according to a new report by Autobild magazine.

The vehicle will be based on the Audi Q5 architecture, according to the report. The Q5 — which has already been spied in testing — is expected to arrive as a 2008 model, following a 300 million euro investment in the Ingolstadt production facility.

Audi is believed to have previewed the Q5 with its Cross Coupe Quattro concept vehicle. It’s not known when Porsche’s Roxster will come to market, but it should be a year or two after the Q5’s launch.

Porsche already hold a trademark on the name Roxster.

An illustration on the cover of the latest Autobild shows what the Roxster might look like. If the image is to be believed, the Roxster will have a coupe-like roofline and overall size in the vicinity of the BMW X3 or Mercedes GLK-Class. (Click here to see the full illustration).

  2. I’d be all over that like a fat kid on candy. Funny it seems to have the same rakish profile from the window sills down as the G6 coupe

  6. If the Cayenne is by far the best selling Porsche, why not create another SUV. It’s about dollars, not staying true to heritage. Companies adapt or die.

  15. I like crossovers - fast, a little extra space, no compromises. You don’t like it? It’s OK, YOU’RE the chronic masturbator scraping by while Porsche is making billions off your monkey asses.

  16. Its not a cross over. Its a tall car. ITS A TALL CAR.

Since when does being tall help a car’s performance?

    They should be ashamed.

  17. formes i think this is a way better idea than a rebadged vw for sure. but the rebadged vw hauls some seroius ass though, and the suv`s that have airbags to give an extra few inches of ground clearance are pretty friggin cool.
deantj will you finger my dick crack while i masturbate.

  25. Boxster is pretty bad too, when you think about it.. wasn’t it supposed to be a hybrid between boxer engine and roadster? If so, what two hybridized words create Roxster? “Rox” for offroad SUV, and “Ster” for family truckster-like station wagon?

  27. Porsche has lost its way. It’s time to focus on what it does best, which is sports cars. I don’t mean the 911, which has become more of a porky grand tourer than a pure sports car. On the other hand, it’s new Cayman platform is the most exciting car in its product line. It’s just hampered in horsepower and lack of LSD, being held back by the 911. It’s time Porsche let the 911 out of the Horsepower Protection Program and let it stand on its own. Porsche should put its product development energies into making the Cayman, already a great car, into an even better one.

  29. “i dunno about you guys but im getting pretty sick and tired with all these stupid crossover.”

They are slightly slower than sedans and perform a lot better in almost everything than SUV’s. Plus they are high enough for major potholes in not so smooth roads. All in all the perfect compromise and I’m glad they’re moving to a more performance oriented direction. Why are you complaining?

  31. For all you people who think this is a bad idea, I think you’d best get used to this as i cant see this being anything other than a huge sales success.
OK the verdict is still out on the name, but design-wise it looks like a winner to me. Knowing all the money they made from the pig ugly Cayenne, they’ll be rolling in it after this good looking piece.
As much as so many people dislike the Cayenne (and I’m no fan), ultimately it has been the saviour which enabled the take over VW and thereby get round future emissions legislation determined by a certain percentage of a companies output. Cayenne thereby saved the 911, so get used to it. Without it there may have had to have been a diesel 911 for it to survive… start thinking about that one…

  32. it doesn’t look that bad. it actually kind of reminds me of an infiniti fx

I’ve found that recently, a lot of car designs of been real turn offs for me, but they’ve managed to grow on me through time and especially seeing the cars in person would change my opinion of them. so don’t be too quick to judge… especially in this case, where you only have a rendering as the only base for your opinion.

  33. Crossover vehicles are just Mini-Vans that look like what we used to call ORVs (off road vehicles), but they don’t have any of the offroad or towing capabilities of “SUVs”. Just admit it you really should be driving a station-wagon or a mini-van but don’t want to feel like the loser you are, so, you bought a car with a lift kit that kinda resembles an SUV. With that said, I hope Porsche sells every single one of these POS things they can build. The more of these you fraking lemmings buy…the more profit Porsche will have to continue perfecting the Cayman.

  34. As an aside, remember, Porsche is not a poser when it comes to off road vehicles. Check up on their history a little. Some of you younger people might be surprised.

  35. deantj, you need anger management.
It’s a dumb name, and I don’t want one, but they think they can make money off it, so ….
the Boxter is porsche’s version of the miata. And like every other miata knockoff except the s2000, it’s a more desireable car than is the original.

I hate crossovers as a concept, but they win.
Give me a sedan called the porsche jackal, and I’m happy as deantj after he thinks up a new obscenity!

  36. “Just admit it you really should be driving a station-wagon or a mini-van but don’t want to feel like the loser you are, so, you bought a car with a lift kit that kinda resembles an SUV.”

Read my comments above, they handle better than SUV’s and of course any mini-vans out there. Crossovers tend to be smaller as well thus giving them superior handling capability compared to minivans. They are probably the perfect vehicle for countries with very little freeways, thus if you’re in US you probably don’t know how good they really are. Regardless, crossovers will sell well especially if it’s a Porsche.

  46. They should call it the Porsche Pandemonium. Give it less of a curv-ous look and a tougher boxier “Land Rover” profile. That would make perfect sense, right?
