Porsche has promised us something “spectacular” for the upcoming Detroit Auto Show, and it appears as though the German automaker will deliver on that claim. Porsche will reportedly debut a new 918 Coupe at the Detroit show.

According to the German site AutoBild, Porsche will unveil a 918 Coupe racecar at the Detroit show. The 918 is set to share the same general architecture as the already revealed 918 Spyder, but will offer a fixed roof setup for better overall dynamics.

Although the 918 Spyder is expected to make regular production in 2014, the 918 Coupe is being described as a track-only racecar. However, it remains possible that the coupe variant will arrive alongside the Spyder in Porsche showrooms.

Ditching the 918 Spyder’s gas-electric drivetrain, the 918 Coupe will use a V8 developing at least 600 horsepower. That powertrain should put the 918 Coupe on par with the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3.

The 918 Coupe will sit atop the 911 in the Porsche lineup, commanding a fitting price well into the six-figure range.
