While it’s still early in the game, Saab ’s turnaround under the ownership of Netherlands-based Spyker Cars N.V. looks to be coming along nicely. The Swedish automaker has already secured GMAC as its preferred lending arm and is currently holding talks with 6 OEMs about possible technology sharing. Continuing its turnaround push, Spyker has announced it is considering Detroit as a possible location for Saab’s new North American headquarters.
The Michigan Economic Growth Authority is considering a plan that would see Saab setup its North American headquarters in the Detroit suburb of Royal Oak. The deal hinges on a $1 million tax break from the city of Royal Oak, but would bring a $2.4 million investment by Saab.

The new headquarters would house most of Saab ’s North American activities, including sales, marketing, advertising and customer report. Saab’s Royal Oak headquarters would create about 60 new jobs.

Prior to Spyker ’s purchase of the Saab brand, most Saab employees were based in General Motors’ Detroit headquarters. Spyker purchased the Saab brand from GM in January.
