Cracker, no I'm not retarded. Read the statement again. I said: "The GENERAL REPUTATION is small = unsafe, Japanese = unsafe."

Then I followed it with: " I'M NOT SAYING THAT IS RIGHT, I’m only saying that is what a lot of people THINK, at least the ones I know."

Stop taking my statements out of context. My statements seem to be large and tough to swallow for you. If they are too much for you, I can dumb them down. However, what I said is correct.

The general reputation of Japanese cars is that they are not as safe as big, fat American or European cars. I know that Japanese cars are as safe if not safer than American and European cars, but I was reiterating what a lot of non-enthusiasts believe. My uncle, for example, had to have his arm twisted before he would buy his wife a Japanese minivan, because he had images of his family all dead and crushed by another car. My wife's step-dad read me the riot act when I bought my Nissan Quest because he felt that it would crumble and fall apart when hitting a pot hole, and that airbags actually made it less safe because people drive worse when they know they have airbags. My oldest sister feels that Japanese cars are simply recycled aluminum cans. Many of my friends and coworkers feel the same way. One woman here at work won't buy anything smaller than a Yukon. She feels unsafe in any car. I told her that a tractor trailer would crush her Yukon in an accident, and now she wants a tractor trailer.

Again, I don't feel that way. I have a Japanese minivan because it was the biggest (cargo) and safest minivan available at the time, and I love it. I've had Japanese cars before, and I feel very safe in them. I understand crumple zones and absorption vs. rigidity. My father also feels the same way I do. My wife, too. So, I'm not the retard that says "Japanese = unsafe". Other people are.

You, Cracker, are just like a media personality or a politician. You take one statement that I made to support a point, and you hammer it to death to try to make me look like an idiot. However, most of the people here are smarter than you are, and they understand that the idiot is you. Your plan has backfired again. Do not take my statements out of context. Read them in their entirety, and understand and learn. You may realize that I am not a fool.

Once again, Toyota will have some work to do to break the incorrect perceptions if they want to sell the IQ in the US. That is not a false statement, and I am not retarded for saying it. That is the truth. Period.

"Japanese = unsafe.”

Are you retarded?? I'd rather be in a Superior import car rather than a puny american muscle death trap. They can't even keep themselves together on the road without a recall, so what makes you think they can keep together during an accident???

This is sad compared to the Chevy Volt coming, which will probably be just as economical as this, if not better.

IQ Hybrid would be sweet. Hopefully they keep the funky interior styling of the concept. I doubt they'll bring it here, though. People have a hard time accepting the Smart as a decently safe car, and it's European. The general reputation is "small = unsafe, Japanese = unsafe." I'm not saying that is right, I'm only saying that is what a lot of people think, at least the ones I know. I'd love the IQ, but most of my friends look at it as a coffin on wheels, even more so than the Smart. It will be difficult to sell here, I think.

I think the poster's name in large, bold type is a good idea. We've all noticed the effort LLN has made in the last while to clean up the commentary and it has worked. Take out all of the garbage that used to make its way onto some threads and you'd be left with about the same number of intelligent comments as there are now.

Content is king—not my name in large letters (who really gives a damn about my name—it's what I write that matters). As it stands F451 looks like an advertisement with the manner my name is displayed. Wrong, entirely wrong. When was the last time you read a book with a dark background? I am not talking a periodical, but a book.

the new format doesn't bother me cuz its all laid out in eyeball friendly boxes and everything you need to look @ is to the left & the other crap to the right. what they NEED to improve on is the spelling.

Guys... I couldn't agree more about the new page design. IT'S A BLOODY DISASTER!!. Who at LLN actually thinks this represents an improvement??? EVERYTHING is wrong about this design. The colors, the amount of text, the layout. It's a jumbled up mess. Very difficult to read through.

As to why they made the change... The answer is simple. They wanted more room for ads and links that generate revenue.

I agree with F451. Everything that matters is smaller, fuzzier and harder to use. The site feels a lot slower as well. It makes me less likely to visit. What was wrong with the previous format?

This new format is just bloody horrid. Everything is YELLING at the reader...posters names yell; titles yell...just a whole lot of visual pollution. The contrast is incorrect—looks like a damn video game. No wonder the post count keeps going down here at LLN. Sad.
