After a report surfaced earlier this week highlighting potential safety concerns over the Lexus GX 460 ′s emergency stability, Toyota is apparently already working on corrective measures designed to help keep the luxury SUV under the driver’s control.
Japan’s Nikkei says that Toyota has already tested a GX 460 in Japan with the fix, which involves the stability control and “other aspects” of the SUV. The automaker is also apparently looking to integrate the changes into its RAV4 and Highlander. Toyota issued a global sales freeze for the GX 460 until it could work out a correction.
Earlier this week, consumer advocacy group Consumer Reports expressed its concern over the GX 460′s emergency handling and advised consumers to avoid the SUV until Toyota implemented a suitable fix. The group said that the GX 460′s rear wheels could slide out if the driver stops accelerating while performing an evasive maneuver. Toyota’s proactive approach began before the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced its intentions to investigate the GX 460.
