When Ferrari debuted the $1 million Enzo, one of the most talked about tidbits was that you could only buy one if you were invited to. Essentially, you had to already own several Ferraris be deemed worthy by the Italian automaker to own its latest masterpiece. It’s a similar story with the Ferrari FXX, which is the track-only successor to the Enzo. But according to Dutch auto magazine Auto Telegraaf, it doesn’t stop there. The magazine says FXX owners also sign a contract not to resell the car without notifying Ferrari. A spokesperson said the goal is to assess demand for the car, and also to keep track of where the cars are going. While the employee didn’t say if Ferrari has final say in who the cars are sold to, we suspect the they might. A total of 29 FXXs have been built.

“A Veyron is hardly a track car.” No, but at least you can drive it on the street. The FXX is hardly the best track car, just the most overpriced. The million or so spent on the FXX would be better spent on a retired track car that is quicker, handles better and costs less. That is if speed and handling are your criteria.

When they first released info on the FXX they said all cars will be stored at Ferrari’s HQ. However I believe owners can keep them where they’d like to, almost as a show peice. As ugly as you all say it is, showing up at a track with 1 of 29 ever made will get respect. If you don’t want to follow their rules, choose another manufacturer. But if they are such a stuck up company, why do they have a year waiting list on most of their cars. The 599 is already sold out the first year. Obviously the FXX’s are all spoken for, and the Enzo had such a demand they built more. I think they know what the hell they are doing and other manufacturers should follow suit.

I seriuosly doubt ANY car manufacture would buy this car to evaluate. A million dollar limited production car. What technology is so great that it could make it in a $25K, $50K, $100k, or even $150K car? Nothing.
“I think they know what the hell they are doing and other manufacturers should follow suit.” I don’t think so, everyone should sell brand new cars that cost over $150k. Oh and you can only sell 5k cars a year.5k cars worldwide, thats why there’s a waiting list for the more money than brains crowd. Well the parent group of Ferrari isn’t doing so well now is it?

Can you actually speak from any sort of experience? What on earth makes you think you are qualified to say any of these things? You have no idea what you are talking about, but you just keep on talking, like you know something, which you clearly don’t. I don’t think there is a car manufacturer in the world, supercar makers included, that would even think about talking trash about Ferrari. I mean you just have to be the stupidest bunch around. I can’t believe any of you consider yourselves knowledgeable enough on the subject to even begin to make any type of comment whatsoever. Ugly? I don’t find F1 cars particularly attractive (albeit very cool looking), but they aren’t made to be. They’re made to perform, much like this car is. And it does. And thats all there is to it. If it wasn’t worth it, all of them wouldn’t be sold already. And the people that buy them know a LOT more than you about Ferraris, considering they are required to have owned several before buying one.

The reason the FXX costs $1M is because you also pay to participate in Ferrari driving events all over the world and become a “certified Ferrari test driver.” Of course it’s just a meaningless title printed on a certificate, but if people are willing to pay, good for Ferrari. Ferrari pretty much owns all the FXX’s. They fly them to different race tracks and the so-called owners just show up and drive them. The FXX isn’t really a car, but rather a whole ownership experience. Therefore it makes sense for Ferrari to keep tabs on who gets them. Besides, if someone has the guts to buy a used FXX, they’ll probably get added to Ferrari’s next “list” for their next supercar.
By the way, the Enzo is not a POS. Therefore a 800bhp ultralight thoroughbred version of an Enzo is not one either. It may not be worth $1M to you, but it is to plenty of people. And until you list all the Ferrari’s that you’ve personally driven, the haters can all eat a
Also, the FXX not being street legal has little to do with EU (or US) crash testing. The FXX has no catalytic converters or directional indicators to save weight.

Right (sarcasm) Tim Allen, a certified car nut called Ferrari on The Tonight Show “a glorified FIAT.!” So he doesn’t what he’s talking about either? Even Reggie Jackson another certified car nut has had nothing positive to say about 80’s and newer Ferrari’s. If we were talking 50’s, 60’s, or early 70’s Ferrari’s I would say I like them. But this car (FXX), the 599, (and others) are indeed ugly and overpriced compared to the competition. Only one exception the 430. The FXX/Enzo is UUUUUGGGGLLLYY.

How are the gaps between the panels, all the same-no, look at one.

I don’t understand why BAMF is sticking up for Ferrari so much. I hang out at the local Ferrari dealer from time to time and car chat with the guys. It is funny that Ferrari tries to remain so exclusive that it treats most people like crap. Ferraris, even the old and famous racers of the 50s and 60s, aren’t great machines, but gorgeous yes. The new ones are super high-tech, but they still aren’t great cars. I think the Chevy big-block is still the best engine ever (Ford guys may disagree). Anybody that knows anything about cars will concede. Most racecars are built on that engine… I don’t see dragsters, top-fuel funny cars or other vehicles basing their motors off of a Ferrari platform. Ferrari’s only real winning racing engines have hardly ever been put into production cars eg: F1 v10’s, ‘61-’64 GTO 3.0 liter 250 engine, 1955 -57 Testa Rosa; and the Dino V6 in the rare Lancia Stratos rally car. The GTOs were slaughtered by the Ford GTs because they were high-reving 3.0 liter v12s that were over taxed in endurance races while the American GTs were larger 8 liter 8 cylinder engines that didn’t have to work hard. For the most part, Ferrari (like Jag and Aston Martin) were just rare, beautiful pieces of art. Nothing more, nothing less. I’d like to see a 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB-C or P4 take on a Shelby anyday. People have a tendancy (rightfully so) to glorify Ferrari. It is totally a pride thing. Ferrari has to work its butt off to keep up with its racing competition. They put so much into their factory racing team because they know that its the heritage that adds to the cars persona. Pride, too, is the reason why FIAT owns Ferrari instead of FORD. Ferrari sold to the lower bidder because old Enzo and the Italians couldn’t bear to see the Americans buy them out (the racing competitor). Hard facts point out that Ferrari isn’t the best (the designs have really sucked lately by the way) and that more bland automakers are putting out better products (the Germans) but where’s the romance in that? right?

The “Ferrari magic” is not about image or pride. It comes from passion, beauty, and decades of breeding. The whole package working (sometimes) in perfect harmony.
I too hate Ferrari fanboys who’ve spent thousands on Ferrari hats, shirts, umbrellas, laptops, etc. (everything except the car itself) and get into slapping fights over F1. I also hate badge-snobs who put Ferrari on a pedestal. I dislike many Ferrari owners I’ve met. Most are insecure jerks don’t know how to properly drive their own cars.
That said, the FXX impractical, over-the-top, over-priced, and exclusive. It’s everything Ferrari.
