I own a 2006 650 convertible and I love it. USA version, picked it up in Munich last August and drove for a week on the Autobahn. After the 1,000 mile break-0in period, I got it up to 148 MPH. I don’t understand all the criticism of the “Bangle Butt” – it’s just an awesome car.

#32, you should revisit that test because your results are in direct contradiction to all other tests on this vehicle. It is one of the most aerodynamic BMWs ever made. It has special fins to cool the LSD under the vehicle and promote proper air flow. Also, the trunk by design (now copied by Lexus and the like) protrudes to create a natural spoiler which is extremely effective in keeping the vehicle firmly planted. Dav, I really don’t know how you produced lift in your experiment but judging by your results you need at least 4 more years of engineering education before trying to get a job.

im not a designer, but i am an aerodynamic engineer, and according to a wind tunnel test we did on this car, well, a model (im in college at UCLA), its really not meant to go that fast, whether it be flat out or at speed around corners. it just doenst have the grip. it’s too heavy, and actually produced lift in our test. its just meant to go fast in a straight, then slow down from it somewhat briskly.

No words.. so beautiful… lol I loved the 6 series the day I first saw images of it… then the M6 came out and I didn’t think it could be better…. but this thing is gorgeous. I know some of the new designs coming out of BMW lately are not so popular with a few folks… but they just keep winning me over. Long live BMW!

What people don’t understand is the philosophy of how BMW makes performance cars. I don’t know where people get the idea that performance translates to fast especially graded on a 0-60 time (even though #3 didn’t mention it)
Performance is an allround thing and speed is a part of it but not all.

Ever since I came to the US, most of the time I talk to someone over here about a car, they are so into the 0-60 or 1/4 mile time and I have to struggle to make them think outside the box.
It is about the EXPERIENCE of getting from A to B and not only about how FAST you get there. Sometimes you just want to forget B and take the long way there, both fast and enjoyable… thats what I think makes a performace car, having speed and the assurance that you are in control of that speed, making that turn and knowing you can negotiate it without doubting the car… i could go on and on.

The companies that take a mediocure car and just through a supercharger or turbo on it just for the heck of going fast and not putting any thought to the suspention, steering, wheels, barkes, etc and just brand it a “performance” car are the ones that i don’t give as much respect to. For they are only doing it for braging rights for the 0-60 or 1/4 mile time… sad but there are lots of companies like that.

Too bad this isn’t available with a hard top…yeah yeah I know, too heavy…etc… But I don’t mind sacrificing alittle performance for a retractable hard top. It’s a convertible, you’re suppose to cruise in it not race it on the track. That would make this car perfect, otherwise it still looks ugly with the top up.

3, it’s not about horse power. The transmission, suspension, steering, brakes are different in the ///M6. Also the infamous ///M differential that you can’t get in 650i. These are good reasons why ///M car commands a price premium

Looks good, but the engine is too peaky for me. It’s only 50 pounds lighter than 650, and the 650 is much cheaper. You can put a super charger in an 650 with more hp, and it will still be less than an M6.

The M6 just doesn’t make much sense.
