impressive vehicle, but it’s time to ditch the XJ styling (and copycat x-type) that is a good 35+ years old now. bring in the new era of Jaguar with the XF/XK design language. thankfully the s-type based on the 1960’s model has gone by the wayside.

15 or 20 years from now nobody will have a clue what model year this is. Iconic is just a snooty word for venerable which is a term they used to apply to Chrysler Fifth Avenues in the 80’s.

I’m sorry, but Jaguar needs to realize they need to update the LOOK and feel of this XJ. If they did to this what they did for the XF, they might be able to sell these, but I just can’t comprehend why they don’t. Not for me, sorry.

I thought it said the XJ was redundant against the XF in the eyes of some members of the major motoring press.

The supercharged XJs are great driver’s cars. I think the consensus is that with a modern look it’ll be at the top of its class. As it is, it seems most reviewers have a positive impression, but that there are too many distractions for a full on endorsement.

This is a great looking car inside and out except for that really dumb shark gill just behind the front wheels. Looks like an intern wanted to add a final touch. Don’t have a problem with the mesh grill; looks OK for a performance model.

inline6, the review seems to be pretty clear that the XJ is the XF’s big but outdated brother…… note that it says the XJ comptes with the S-class, S8, etc.

XJ is an impressive car. I owned a ‘94 a few years back and loved it. Obviously, the current cat is of an entirely different breed. I could see myself owning one far ahead of a 7-Series or S-Class because the Jag is much purer.

WHICH journalists find the XJ redundant against the XF? LLN and its factual flunkies?

The XF competes with the 5-Series, E-Class, and A6. It replaced the S-Type. The XJ competes with the 7-Series, S-Class, and A8. That’s how they’re priced, equipped, and tested by all the major motoring publications. Were the S-Type and XJ redundant? I don’t think so.

Get you facts straight, LLN. Don’t post something if you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about like it’s coroborrated by others of significance.
