Revised Audi Q7 V12 TDI concept to bow in Detroit

01/05/2007, 7:15 PM

By admin

Audi will use the upcoming Detroit auto show to reveal a new version of the Q7 V12 TDI, first revealed at the Paris Motor Show in September. The new version features a slew of minor visual changes to the bumpers and aprons. The headlights each gain a row of LEDs, and the rear spoiler is adorned with red LEDs.

It comes equipped with an engine similar to the one featured in R10 Le Mans racing car. It produces 500 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque (1000 Nm). The crossover is capable of hitting 62 mph in 5.5 seconds, with a limited top speed of 155 mph. Maximum torque is available from just 1,750 rpm. Gallery after the jump…

Call me crazy, but doesn’t it make sense to, say, include a trailer hitch on something like that. I mean, I just know that if I ever see one of these, it will be driving 40 in a 50 zone by some trophy wife.

I’m not a huge fan of huge SUV’s, but I must admit that I like this one. The interior is especially nice.

I thought the grille insert and headlights on the original concept were over the top.. and then they take them even further. The regular Q7 has been a sales flop in the US so far.. so I guess this extra flash is for the rappers?

Say what you want, but this is an amazing SUV. The engine is just incredible, more so because it’s a Diesel. Hats off to Audi, they really outdid themselves this time. :)

This thing is badass really bad ass. I thought the VW toureg V10 TDI was bad ass, but this is great I hope to see more specs on this. Hopfully they put bigger breaks on it and put more weight in the back to help with the balance of it. If they do that then it will handle better really I hope to drive one soon

The soccer players of Real Madrid got to pick which q7 they wanted to drive to practice in for a year…..I bet Beckham wants to tear up his previous contract and start fresh with this one.

Looks pretty sweet, but one thing that would drive me crazy is the fact that the radio controls appear to be sandwiched between the armrest and floor shifter, strange.

WAY TO GO Audi for new innovativation and design.

this isnt particularly fast anyway so wahts the big deal about it. it looks good, i think but its only as fast (to 60mph at least) as a G55 amg anyway. and ML and R 63s, Porche Cayane Turbo S and Jeep SRT8s can all hit 60 in 5 seconds or less. Gasoline is still better

Not fast? Remember this is a SUV, check out it’s size: It’s BIG! And check the torque! 1000 Nm! Now that’s awesome!

And I totally agree with fixitfixitstop: It will be driving 40 in a 50 zone by some trophy wife. Sad but true…

Absolutely stunning. I don’t know how I feel about the grill on this version though, it seems to be way too vertical but besides that an awesome display of german engineering at it’s finest.

Front end looks like a jap car ripoff. If a US company came out with this pig all you fans would rail it for not getting real and putting out cars people want instead of SUV ****. Face it, the Q7 barely sells, but I did see one and I find it preferable to its MB, BMW, and Porsche competition.

ricardo well said, if it had a chevy bow tie on it evervbody would trash it. its definately a nice suv but 55amg has a point, with all the torque a diesel has the numbers dont seem rite, i should be down at least with the srt-8 (although the audi is was nicer). still i am glad audi was able to turn aroung 6 years ago and start making cars actually better than gm. audis sucked soooooooo bad in the 80`s and 90`s they were not even worth the paint on them, now they are the best mass produced cars from europe period.

I find it amusing that they will unveil it in america yet I was under the assumption we weren’t getting the diesel. I’ll be very impressed if they get it through that new bogus emissions requirements.

They will bring this engine combo over for the Q7 but wont even think of bringing the S3 here. Rubbish, it took them 6 yrs to finally bring the RS4 overto the states. Audi bring the S3 here!!!

Tow a 747? Those little “tugs” aren’t the most powerful machines in the world. A typical SUV will do the same thing if you are careful. I think VW will tell you the same. It was just good PR to pull that stunt, not unlike those old FORD ads with an F-150 towing a chevy truck and carrying a CHEVY P/U up a rock hill at a good clip.

This Q7 is fine for those who have that much money, but I would rather see a V12 in a car not an SUV.

Its all about the fact they ‘can’ than the ‘why they would’ – if you have to consider a question like ‘why’ they you obviously not in the market and will unfortunately miss out on what must be the greatest SUV in existance. I’ve already been on the phone to Ingolstadt to order mine!

Read up on that VW 747 stunt, that Toureg was very modified by VW. And they admitted it. It had a specially built transmission, re-inforced suspension, and something done to the tires, I think they foam filled them. The TDI Engine was stock however. They loaded the rear of the Toureg with sheets of steel to give it enough weight that it could pull the jet without spinning it’s wheels. You’re right it’s not the power those “little tugs” have, it’s the shear mass they have. It’s the only way to get the power to the ground. Toss one on a scale…

Oh, and way to go Audi! King of bad ass Diesel engines.
