Revised Nissan GT-R in the works for 2009

11/13/2008, 7:01 PM

By Drew Johnson

The Nissan GT-R is just coming online in some global markets, but the Japanese automaker is reportedly already working on an updated version of its supercar. Dubbed the ‘Series II’, the revised version of the GT-R is rumored to hit the market in 2009.

Changes to the GT-R will be small, but the revisions will probably be enough to enrage a few 2008 GT-R owners. Underhood the Series II will see a five horsepower bump – brining total output to 478 – while fuel economy figures will grow from 19.3 mpg to an even 20 mpg, according to GTRBlog.com.

Other changes to the 2009 GT-R will include the deletion of the front license plate holder, Brembo brakes that now sport the Nissan badge, a larger fuel tank – up .75 gallons to 19.5 gallons – and a new paint color called ‘White Storm’.

The changes won’t come free, though, as GT-R prices are expected to jump 5 percent for 2009.

The GT-R Series II is expected to hit the Japanese market first in 2009, with the changes slowly trickling down to other global markets.

I think what will piss the current owners off is that some of them paid double the price for the “series 1″ GT-R.

demand demand demand. Nissan R35 Skyline GT-R always been greatest hite in Japan and europe. When the vehicle only come out 1500 here in the US, of course the price is going to be double and ever one know that. Remember ya, next generation Vette is gone already and that is less stress for the GT-R. Oranginal R34 GT-R suppose to be around $80K here in the US in 1998, but never made it. GT-R model is not about price on this vehicle, is all about performance and handling this car has given that other cars can’t. Infinity G35 and G37 was temp. replacement for the GT-R in Japan, cause of the money exchange so they only can bring the car in as Infinity not Nissan.

GT-R is all about Performance, handling, and beauty. Just enjoy it and stop complain about the price.

Nice car. If it was sitting in my garage even American beer could easily compensate for any perceived lack of aesthetics.

5% for that!? =))
I thought Nissan said the car is perfect, why update it!? /sarcasm
Seriously, I’m expecting a mig-year refresh with new lightbulbs and three more stiches in the leather to sell for 10% more….

Those changes are so insignificant, I don’t know why they bothered. Why don’t they spend some time fixing the look of the car, such as the nose. It needs a nose job badly.

hahaha let me guess Nissan will allow 700 hard launches instead of 600 hard launches before you void your warranty? 5hp bump? Seriosly why? Just crank up the boost and you’ll get more than 5hp…. I hate this car more and more…

Nope, nothing special here. For the extra money you could tune it to get way more than 5 extra horsepower. This is just an over-hyped POS that can’t walk the walk.
