Right-hand-drive Tesla Roadster to bow in 2010

07/08/2009, 9:57 AM

By Andrew Ganz

Tesla hopes to tap into the world’s right-hand-drive markets, namely the United Kingdom, India, Japan and Australia, by offering its electric Roadster with the steering wheel on the right-hand side. Though Tesla has already announced that it plans to open a dealership in London, offering a model tailored to the market will undoubtedly help sales.

Earlier this year, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the London store and he further confirmed the automaker’s plans to offer a right-hand-drive model.

“Thanks to an abundance of discriminating drivers and progressive public policy, Tesla is already well known in Europe,” Musk said. “We expect the London store to dramatically increase our brand identity throughout the continent, and with right hand drive models now due at the beginning of next year, the UK market will provide a solid foundation on which to build this.”

If it’s being in the UK – instead of the oil leaking, it’s going to leak battery acid.

England may be a great place to sell electrics. Country is an Island and there is nowhere to go. You could almost go from one end to the other on one charge.

Pazzo, if it means our fellow Australians use less fuel in the long-run driving Teslas around instead of a typical unleaded vehicles then so be it – the more fuel left over for us enthusiasts.

I want to see the S Sedan. This ought to get Ford and others thinkiing hey if they can produce a 4 door sedan for $49,000 do 0-60 in 5.6 Seconds and go 300 Miles then why can’t we have a vehicle do 600 mile or 1000 miles and do 0-60 in 2.3 seconds . I think we have’nt begun to scratch the surface of what is possible ladies and gentleman.
