Makes my E30 seem far too modern and boring in comparision!

I love these old BMWs… Anything E36 onwards, imho, was a disappointment in terms of CHARACTER.

thanks for a nice write up. I enjoyed reading it and even more, because you were driving a classic BMW. I think it would’ve been more fun if BMW Classic would’ve giving you a 3.0CSi. That Coupe is still looking magnificent even today.

@ F3INT))AP3X: Bellagio is on my list for the next trip thataway. And I do agree that California seems to be the best choice for good driving roads – I love canyon carving north of LA. But Swiss, Italian, French and German roads are almost always smooth as glass (if a bit narrow).

Since we’re on the subject of ‘Road Trips’, how about the great North American Road Trip:-) I’m still planning; It’s been a couple of years:-( I think I can find the time for at least one major trip in August – say in the 4 to 6k ballpark. Now where to go and what to bring? Hmmm…

I remember seeing a Bavaria parked near my house when I was 7 or 8 years old and wondering who would buy such a boxy, plain sedan.. looking at it again after all these years, I can now appreciate the forward thinking of BMW’s engineers of the 1970s.

Sweet writeup Andrew sounds like a hell of trip, I stayed in Bellagio a couple years ago and yea lake Como is one of the nicest places their is; although not quite as clean as everyone would think hehe. Also about America having no good enthusiast roads, speak for yourself man. Here in San Jose you can take a short jaunt up to Highway 9 which is one of the best roads I have ever driven and the pavement is pretty fresh and super even save for one corner I know of. If you ever get out this direction then definitely take the trip, you can go up 9 to Skyline Blvd and take the mountains all the way to Frisco!

Thanks for the road trip down memory lane. Those were the days, when BMWs were renowned for great handling and design excellence in a conservative package…cars for engineers, not poseurs. Check out the greenhouse on that car – no blind spots. My family had a rare ‘67 1800 4-dr sedan – we always flashed our lights in greeting to other BMWs since they were so uncommon. At gas stations, people would come over and say “BMW? Who makes this car?”

The old time Road Trip, man, that was the best. You start going 65 mph on the I-10 and people start beep behind you and tell you speed up, haha, been there and done it. these are nice BMW, an old school with basic equipment that you don’t have to worry about anything. Ya, imagine no GPS and you just keep driving with out knowning where you going, oh yeah.

Take alot pictures and post back on here so we can see it.
