Rolls-Royce releases Ghost promotional video

Rolls-Royce has release a promotional video of its newest model, the BMW 7-Series-based Ghost. The video is our first glimpse at the Ghost in motion. The Ghost first debuted at the Geneva Motor Show as a thinly veiled concept, but will arrive at next month’s Frankfurt show as a full-on production model.

The Ghost will carry the marque’s signature lines, albeit in a much slimmer profile than the Phantom.

“We are delighted to formally announce the Rolls-Royce Ghost. It is one of the most revered names in the automotive industry, evoking images of adventure and technical innovation. The name reflects this new model’s breadth of abilities,” said Rolls-Royce Motor Cars CEO, Tom Purves. “The first cars to bear the Ghost name were known not only for impressive dependability and refinement but also great flair and style. This car will be the first in a new generation of models to carry this evocative name and will give us two pinnacle product lines – Phantom and Ghost.”

Rolls-Royce said the introduction of a new smaller and entry-level model will likely increase annual output to roughly 1,600 cars. As noted, the new Roller shares a platform with the new BMW 7-Series. Rolls-Royce will utilize the Bimmer platform to build a less expensive luxury car. Of course, “less expensive” in this case means in the low-$300,000 range.

Despite the baby Rolls’ close connection with the 7-Series, the two cars don’t share any visible interior designs or parts. In fact, the two sedans will only share about 20 percent of their components. The new Rolls-Royce model will also have a 5,400 mm wheelbase and tip the scales at over 5,000 lbs.

Initial reports suggested the car would be powered by a BMW’s 4.4L twin-turbo V8, but the Ghost will actually be powered by a turbocharged V12. The 12-pot mill is all-new but is said to be based on BMW’s V8 architecture. According to Rolls-Royce, the new turbo V12 displaces 6.6L and cranks out 563 horsepower and 575 lb-ft of torque. Power will be shifted via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Despite the Ghost’s heft, the big Roller can make the sprint from 0-60 in just 4.7 seconds, on its way to an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.

The Rolls-Royce Ghost will be built on its own dedicated production line at Goodwood but will share paint, wood and leather workshops with the Phantom series of cars. Rolls-Royce has expanded all areas of its manufacturing facility over the last 18 months to prepare for the introduction of the Ghost model.

This car would be even more incredibly overpriced if they just dropped a BMW parts bin V8 in it.

The rear looks like a pumped up Rover 75. Overall though the cars has a lot more style than the other RR model
