>>ANyway, if you want people to buy your product, tell them how it will make them feel GOOD
>>Have these commercials actually brought more customers to VW showrooms? I doubt it. A TV viewer might see it and say, "Hey, that was realistic." But I doubt it would make a person say, "I want to buy that car because the commercial left me feeling bad about the world."

How good will you feel when you or your friend arent' dead?
Just searched Jetta on the web. Apparently, they're flying out of the dealer's showrooms since these commercials ran. Sales are way up.

A little sauce with that Crow, Sir?

It's just in bad taste, and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I also found it inappropriate that they say, "Holy sh--," at the end of every commercial. ANyway, if you want people to buy your product, tell them how it will make them feel GOOD, don't make them feel like they've just swam in a pool of life's most depressing sludge.

Give me a break!
After reading most of these comments I think everyone needs a reality check. Most of you seem to be convinced that you are always paying attention to the road and your driving 100% of the time........right.

I happen to be one of those people who can admit that I am not perfect. Yes it is true, ALL humans make mistakes from time to time....even when we are driving.

It's nice to see that VW is putting the reality of life into their spots. Any of us can be an imperfect driver and stay safe. VW is capturing real life situations and putting them in front of our faces. The truth is not always sugar coated or exactally what people want to see so I have to hand it to VW for their honest representation of life.

Great ad...got my attention...made me think...mission accomplished.

"The Unpimping ads were sorta inconsistent too, given that the Golf is one of the most ‘pimped-out’ cars among European youth.)

What ever happened to VWs just being fun?"

1) That'w vw's point! They don't see the point in "pimping" out a car to a point that it's ridiculous...notice you didn't see a cleanly modded car. Why would vw bash another vw (ricer or not)? You saw hood scoops, wings, and stickers. It's a kick in the groin for the ricers out there (vw or not). Besides, that commercial was only marketed in the states. 2) VW's new commercials are histerical and portray a neat, fun, and funky car...imho.

I own a 2006 Passat and didn't have a clue as to crash rating. Don't want to be in a crash in the safest car. BTW, though Mercedes used the example of the crash that saved a family, frankly what did it do for Princess Di?
Come on, I want the safest car I can afford, but what is that? Sometimes crap happens. If its your time to go then you will.
Its just a commercial, I hope they didn't expect anything other than to get your attention and entertain you. If they did, it didn't work.

The ad is excellent. It shows tha the car is safe. Ya sure if you roll the car off of a cliff into the water you will die but what car will save you from that. Real people in a real crash. Which car company feels comfortable enough to do this?

As I said at no 7, i will repeat myself saying that no matter the situation, accidents will happend somehow and I would rather be in a safe, well finished, high value and styled car like VW instead in the middle o a fancy, bling-bling, good-for-nothing-but-show-off car like the americans do usualy. Same for the xerox-born-cars from Japan. Europe ruls at this chapter, folks, that's a fact.

An odd thing about two of these commercials (and maybe you have to be a black guy to notice these things), but in each one it is a black male starting to speak and WHAM! One was driver (sided impact) and the other is passenger (front impact). It strikes me as odd because young black men are never featured in commercials unless the advertiser is trying for street cred, but as soon as one starts to voice an opinion--CALAMITY!

The Jetta and Passat have 5 star ratings. That was a mis print on that commercial. To my understanding it has been fixed.

Terrible ads. Scary and shocking reminders to people who have been in serious accidents. Totally turns me off of VW. I think it is a cheap shot to draw on peoples emotions and will have the opposite effect.

Great ads. They help bring awareness of some of the most important features of a car, safety in an accident.

In defensive driving, I don't care about whether the other driver is safe or not. It is my responsibility to notice unsafe drivers, and avoid them.

I understand not all drivers are capable of learning all the tricks of driving. Thus it is good to put a child, or a driving who has trouble getting the hang of driving (people who have to retake the driver's license exam), into a tank.

Lessons of the day:
Don't buy your child an RX-8!
People with no spatial skills should drive Ford F-350's to protect themselves!

I just love the comments about the driver's not driving safe. First, what about the OTHER drivers? Second, if we ALL drove by the book and safe we would not need safety features! These are very real life.

Ive been in a few serious accidents and I have to say that Im glad I was in a German made vehicle, most other rides would have been crushed like a egg.
Twice someone elses stupidity pulling out in front of me at 30 and again at 55.also 50 mph into a power pole in Wisconsin winter. All before airbags.
Unless you have been in a potentially lethal accident you have no understanding of what a well made car is.
Avoid American vehicles and japanese rides. German and Swedish are the only rides I would trust to carry my loved ones.
The commercial simulates real life.
Go to a wrecking yard and see for yourself what can happen.
Buckle up.
oh, and drive fast , take chances !!
you cant get a better car for the money. VW !!

It doesn't even have a 5 star Frontal crash rating (notice the 4 stars at the end of the Frontal Crash). They are just trying to copy Subaru's new Safety ads. whoop dee doo.

HA HA HA If you rewind the commercial a few times and look at the aftermath, you will see the Ford suffered ZERO damage. So this is like a 15 mph collision. The Ford fully box framed truck with its full-metal bumper didn't even take a scratch.

Who's safe now?

These commericals are pure hollywood! Exactly how fast was the SUV moving when it T-boned the Jetta?
Was it going 10 mph or was it traveling at a life threatening velocity of say 30 mph? There is a major difference between accidents at different rates of speed (I know, we all now this already), but if a loaded Ford Explorer T-boned a new Jetta at 30+ mph The driver will NOT be exiting the car unassisted by Emergency personnel.

A bad commerical for ignorant people.

In the top commercial, the Jetta had to be speeding to hit the red truck backing out of a residential driveway.

In the bottom commercial, the driver did not look both ways before rolling forward when the light turned green.

Send them both back to driver's ed.

Both of these ads have distracted drivers, who are driving in an unsafe manner.

To even pass the driver's license exam, a driver has to look both ways before rolling through an intersection.

The safety features of the car may be good, but a more important message is to drive safely. Both of these Jetta drivers failed to do that.

These ads do not promote safe behavior at all. "It's ok, we got your back if you screw up. There's no consequences."

If the argument is that ads promoting safety should be well recieved and powerful, then VW is just going about it the wrong way. A few years ago Mercedes had an ad with an E class that was in a severe accident and the family that survived. The tone of the ad was convincing of safety than shock value and fear of what is going to come when you least expect it.

hahah, so basically, retarded drivers buy jettas and get into accidents. #1 guy should have been paying attention to the road rather than talking to his friend about being stupid, #2 guy didnt look before going through a green light, its common sense at least in LA!

So if I buy a Jetta, I will crash... how very appealing. I guess the imporant thing is that the ads work for a lot of other people. They're pretty inconsistent with the Fast ads though. (The Unpimping ads were sorta inconsistent too, given that the Golf is one of the most 'pimped-out' cars among European youth.)

What ever happened to VWs just being fun?
