RCA and Beat are right… smash two v-8s together and its a W.

To simplify, YOU ARE ALL CORRECT. it has 16 cylinders, all wheel drive, 4 turbos, and 4 banks…

And this isnt the first time we’ve seen an engine wit 16 cylinders. Cadillac Sixteen concept. 2 v-8s back to back

Ken, the Veyron has 16 cylinders, not 12. Like RCA said, it’s basically two V8s fused together. Put two Vs together and you get a W. Put two 8s together, and you get 16. That’s how it works.

Bugatti planning a sedan, I guess it is a good move since almost all blocks able to afford Bugattis have kids they love to take for a ride when they allow themselves to do it. hope there will be enough space in the trunk for their favorits golf clubs.
as for the veyron, well a 4-8-4 engine would be a disaster to tune. at this level of power do not think of it. also it would not make a W but strange letter like a V with a big erect…. as there is not enough place in this car for Y version. the W16 is actually two V8 with the same manifold. the two Vs have the same angle. so it is indeed 4 banks of 4. fold your thumb and raise your other finger, this how the engine looks like. The veyron is a 4WheelDrive – the number of wheel drives is connected with engine power and target utilizations of the car not with the layout of the banks. As for the use, such an advance tech car is for sure an excuse to increase overall VW gr knowlegde in car making and will make happy bunnies on high speed tracks with a hell of accelerations spots and high speed corners. will also do for the show off.
The new sedan, at leat in the spirit, will find itself easier on road and then we will see more bugattis in the steets. being Bugatti fan i do not complain

No, Thunder Chicken is right. 16 cylinders in 4 banks. That’s why it says, “16.4L QUAD-turbocharged engine”. The “quad” represents the amount of turbos. The 4-wheel drive (or AWD) is not part of the engine, so it has no bearing on the engine specifications. The “L” is most likely a typo. The Veyron is called the “Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4″.

Actually you are both wrong…the 16.4 means 16 cylinders (4 banks of 4), and 4 turbo chargers. And because the car has a W16 engine, it has to be 4 wheel drive.

=======>>Thunder Chicken, you’re partially right. The “4″ part doesn’t represent 4banks of cylinders either. 4banks of cylinders would mean it had an “X” type engine instead of a W16. 16/4 actually represents 16cylinders, 4wheel drive.

Um… At 16.4 liters there had better be two of ‘em lurking under that hood. I believe the actual displacement is closer to 8.0 liters. The “16.4″ means 16 cylinders, 4 banks
