Western Russia is considered Europe and Eastern/southern is considered Asia I beleive.

Russia had large “middle class” even during cold war. The difference was its income was far below of West underprivileged. Now that KGB infiltrated the government things are going much better for them: they can openly criticize US government and they can drive Chevski and Fordski instead of FIATski. Being the second oil producer after Saudi in a world of $145/barrel does not hurt.

That’s because it’s Korean Chevrolets (read Daewoos) and many are assembled in Russia, Uzbekistan and Ukraine. So are Hyundais are assembled in Russia that makes ‘em lot cheaper then anything else.
BTW, Russia gets latest generation of Ford Focus with all body styles (unlike North America).
