Last week marked the one year of independence for Saab, a celebration of its stil- new Spyker ownership. To mark the occasion, Saab introduced limited-production 9-3 Convertible Independence Edition complete with an exclusive paint scheme and some cosmetic updates also set to arrive on the rest of the 9-3 lineup for 2012.
Based on the 9-3 Griffin Aero, the Independence Edition package will be limited to just 366 units – one for each day since Saab was purchased from General Motors and an “extra for the start of the second year,” according to Saab.
Each will be painted a unique Amber Orange metallic with an edition number etched into the rear side windows. Five-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels are finished with a chrome and black finish, while the rest of the exterior gains the new front fascia and other minor cosmetic updates that help bring the 9-3 into line with the new Saab 9-5.
Inside, the droptop gains orange stripes on its light parchment leather seats, an orange turbo gauge needle and orange touches on the steering wheel and floor mats. Some markets will get a carbon fiber-style leather dashboard supplied by Hirsch.
European Saab buyers will have the option of a 1.9-liter 180-horsepower diesel or a 220-horsepower 2.0-liter gasoline engine; North America will get only the latter. Manual and automatic transmissions will be available.
Pricing has not been announced.
