He drives a BMW. I don't think his "respect" decided that purchase.
As for your "willing to pay for inferior products solely because they are made in your country" bullshit, I wish American products were on top, but that doesn't mean I'm going to buy one.
I would love to be at the wheel of a new 335i. Those things are sweet. Mmmm.

"And the Gallardo bullshit (even if true) was a really sad way to try to show off in my opinion - keep that to yourself."

On the contrary, my point is to show that I'm not into showing off even if I'm capable of doing so.

"I agree with everything else you said except I DO care if Lexus makes REALLY good Toyota's, because I'd prefer if Lexus was a dedicated luxury carmaker, not a division of a company as boring as Toyota (and that lack of excitement from Toyota's products unfortunately makes it in Lexus products). At least Cadillac tries to seperate itself by doing things such as using the Sigma platform exclusively for itself."

Again, your point has gone beyond reasons. The market decides what it wants and it wants Lexus as it is today. Your point of having Lexus as a separate entity is irrelevant as at the end of the day it's all business. Why fix something that ain't broke? Your only reason for wanting it is emotion related since it is related to exclusivity and ego. Like I said, Toyota's interior is often superior to that of the Americans and German "premium" brands. They have no need to improve much to make the sales.

"It's not about patriotism, it's just the MOST BASIC level of respect for your country to consider your own nation's products -"

This is where I differ from you. Your way of thinking is what is empowering the unions. Why work harder if there are those who are willing to pay for inferior products solely because they are made in your country? Without real competition there is no progress and if those workers aren't willing to catch up then they truly deserve to die a horrible death. Basically if you're willing to waste your money to support your country then it's more than respect, it's blind patriotism as it has gone beyond reasons. Your "respect" is what decides your purchase, not the other way around. That is why you will always defend American brands instead of discussing the pluses and minuses of each models separately.

"I evaluate each car model as it is independent from brand or country of origin." - i dont know, so far you haven't sounded that way. But that is one of the things I was trying to get people like sunshine and 1115 to do"
Stop your bullshit. You want people to buy American bc that what they should prefer since they are Americans. Sounds biased to me. Anytime I evaluate a car i base it on reliability and resale value. I also look to see which cars are the best sellers and then price. Those cars happen to all be cars keep coming up Japanese. NOT GM, NOT FORD, NOT CHRYSLER!

Holden was, a long time ago, an independent Aussie carmaker. Australians buy it because they still consider it a domestic automaker. It's not about patriotism, it's just the MOST BASIC level of respect for your country to consider your own nation's products - that's why people in Germany respect Opel, people in the UK respect Vauxhall (GM could have just called it Opel there too but they didn't), and people in Korea buy Daewoo.

Commodore: BTW, some of the first cars I owned are Holdens. They are far from great even compared to the japanese of old. But you can't expect much from a country as laid back as AUS.

"If you don't like them, why do you own so many of them?"

It's just part of business. Regardless, I evaluate each car model as it is independent from brand or country of origin. Otherwise I'd be driving a Gallardo to work everyday as I can afford to do that but it just seemed to impractical. Ford makes some shit models but also decent vehicles that I don't mind using everyday. I don't go around bashing GM or Ford, rather specific models that I deemed nothing more than a useless effort. Let it be on record here that spec-wise I'd take the new CTS AWD fully loaded with its 300+ HP over the new C Class or the 3 series sedan. That is if I'm looking for a car in that class but for much less I can get a Volvo S40 AWD turbo or a G35x that's sufficient for transportation.

Back on topic, this new Saab when it comes out in its Cadillac form will be the ultimate crossover as it is practically a Saab without the chinese car interior and I'm sure the price will be lower than similar offerings from the germans. I'd never get the Saab though. Yea unlike you I don't really care whether it's a Toyota in the "L" badge.

Exactly Burmanesski. There are other cars that are just as reliable and well-built as the cars from japan.

And yes, Trabants were one of the worst things that came out of East Germany. And unfortunately they are still found throughout Ukraine, Russia, Romania, and the rest of eastern europe

Commondore, I would have to agree with you commrade, you write well, i bought a new toyota 4runner in 88 and i gave it to my youngest son and it is like new. but i also have had a few american car, a camaro in 1990 and sold it to get a Cadillac CTS-V and they all have been great cars exept the Trabant, a old lady with broken leg could go faster than the trabant, so i am more on your side of this, If you like something buy it and if it not work well then you can say bad things about it.

Well you sound anti-american in many of your posts. Don't accuse me of being anti-japanese either.

And why are you going around constantly bashing the Ford and GM when you own 20 Fords? If you don't like them, why do you own so many of them?

No veda - it would just be wrong to call one of Cadillac's vehicles by a Honda name. Caddy is luxury, Honda is mainstream. And I am not anti-japanese - I buy the best car. you are anti-american.

Calling a Cadillac "CRX" would be just as wrong as calling it "Cavalier" or "Focus" so that's why I retracted that statement.

FYI, Jaguar, I AM Mexican. I wish I could put a bullet through the head of the mastermind behind all the terrorist activity just as much as you do. Sure, I am the son of two illegal immigrants but, last time I checked, my parents love America, just like every single one of my countless relatives. They came here because America allowed them to make a decent living, because there is no shortage of work, so they could provide for me and my siblings. Mexicans aren't TRYING to take others' jobs, they're just willing to work for less money, and if most Americans weren't so greedy that wouldn't be a problem. That brings me back to the UAW case. Thank you for at least agreeing with me on that.
I don't know why you even mentioned terrorism as Mexico has nothing to do with it, unless you consider them "taking" jobs as terrorism. When is the last time you heard "Mexican man kills 10 people in suicide bombing of Border Patrol Station" on the news? That's what I thought.
I am 21 years old and I just graduated from my local community college. In about a month I will start a 14-month course at an automotive trade school called Wyoming Technical Institute to become a certified master automotive technician. My goal is to do my part in fixing the mess that the automotive industry is. How about you?

Another SUV! GM should phase out Saab as they make the ugliest cars. They never change. This new truck is to be built in Mexico which doesn't help the reliability since Saab's are quite unreliable to begin with.

Rumor has it that Cadillac/GM has no plans to build a new SRX from the new CTS platform.. so maybe the 9-4X will yield the next SRX.

C6Racer, you are the mentally inept posterior here. If you are too stupid to see what is happening to us, you really should consider moving to Mexico to take part in their wonderful economy. By outsourcing our production, we are bolstering the economies of other countries rather than supporting American workers. I agree that UAW is a bad deal. Labor unions had their place 75 years ago. This is now 2007. We have government organizations that monitor labor conditions. These very workers are now dependent on these unions to bully the companies into giving them more money they don't deserve. Unions are now a such hindrance. However, by outsourcing the production of the autos we buy, we are sending our hard earned money to a nation who wants to overrun us, claim us as their own, have the "American Dream", and not raise a finger to have it. And you know what? The sorry liberals are willing to hand it to them. They give them drivers licenses, free insurance and health care, make their babies born on our soil of illegal aliens into full on citizens. That is the tragedy that is now America. I hope you are proud of that. Now, if the ragheads wanted to build our cars, would you let them? Remember, if they build the cars, they get a cut of our money. They fly airplanes into our buildings, kill 2973 of our innocent civillians. You know the story there. By letting them build our cars, they get a cut of the money and we would in a sense be financially supporting terrorism. These Mexicans have as much respect for us as the terrorists do. They hate everything about America. They refuse to learn the language here and make us learn theirs to compensate. They just want to be us to have our wealth. And a sorry traitor like yourself doesn't deserve to have a part in that. Now, I hope you and your sorry, pathetic, name-calling self feels much better and I hope you come to realize the sad truth that this formerly great country is. Happy posting, idiot.

Jaguar, your a dumbass. With the UAW treating GM the way it is of course it's going to mexico. The cheap thing rather than the right thing? I've been buying GM cars for a long time and I have had much, MUCH better luck with the cars built in Mexico than the ones built in the U.S.. In fact, I've had no problems with my Mexican-built cars so far. UAW workers are a bunch of greedy, lazy pigs. I'll will give them credit for not degrading themselves by working for minimum wage, but when the very company you work for is struggling to stay alive the last thing I would do is go on strike and risk losing my job completely. Dumbasses.

No one complaining about Caddy sharing a platform? I expected that.

And just cause it's made in Mexico doesn't mean bad quality...ask Ford, who makes the Fusion in Mexico and has acheived a very high level of reliability.

Just make sure that the result of giving this to Caddy doesn't end up being like the 9-3 wagon in Europe becoming the BLS wagon...that was not too good in my book.

And I assume, the Caddy version will be called BRX - hate the name. Cadillac should drop the DTS and make a new flagship, keep the STS as the midsizer and the SRX as the larger crossover, and keep the CTS as the entry level and make the new smaller crossover the CRX

^^^ the lambda platform was differentiate.....only the Enclave looks different and the interior is pretty much the same save the wood and other luxury touches, but the Saturn and GMC variations might as well be twins. And if thats not good enough they have a Chevy version coming which looks like the last two. Different is the B6 Passat and Audi A4. Most people dont know.

Hmm.....that diesel engine sounds torquelicous and put into a small cross-over vehicle with a 5 speed manual and a tout suspension would be sweet to drive. As long as GM makes the models different like it did with the Lambda platform triplets I'm all for this.

What more can you expect? GM is scrapping for every dollar they can get. If their workers can build cars for $.25 per hour rather than $20, GM is going to do the cheap thing rather than the right thing. I'm sure the quality will be right up there with Ford too. Many of their parts are made in Mexico. I hope we charge really high tariffs on them. Oh wait. We can't. Thanks for NAFTA, Clinton. Now we're stuck with Mexican Swedish cars.
