Like they did before GM screwed them for all the tech they did not have themselves, and then tossed them out, when the leadership could not hide how much money they siphoned out of the GM company blaming SAAB, Opel and some others for their own short-commings when the crunch hit. There are some people around the Globe not fooled by all the bull they have been served. I even know people without degrees in economics whom figured this one out by just adding 2+2

Darkon,

I agree with your logic, it is tough for a small brand to compete in today's market. But Saab became a know brand for putting out unique vehicles, and if GM were to take it back the whole point would be platform sharing for lower manufaturing cost, which means Saabs would be nothing more than rebadged and slightly redesigned GM. We and GM don't need another Pontiac/Oldsmobile/Buick...

my local saab dealer was buzzing before the recession. seems like a lot of 9-3s and 9-7s were moving in michigan. the bankruptcy and the gas prices just killed a niche brand. a lean, focused gm might find some value in the company, idk... i don't see how such a small brand win back consumers/residual values w/o some help from a major player.

Why would GM want to buy SAAB back? It will not ad any value to GM, plus you saw what happened when they were selling the brand, it almost went kaputz with no buyer. That's a reflection of the value of the brand. If SAAB wants to turn things around they will have to come up with something a lot better, unique vehicles like back in the 90s...

2011 Volvo XC60 has 325LB of Torque and 300HP and a SMOOTH Inline Six PLUS City Safe. I'd have more respect for this "SAAB" if the base engine was a powerful and efficient turbocharged 4 cylinder.

Since it's a GM clone they should give me my GM employee discount on it. I'd lease one for $399/m...which is what I can lease a SRX for. No discount? No thanks.

I'd say wait a year or two and you'll probably be able to pick one up for half the price but that would be implying that they'll actually sell any in the first place.

I'd wait for the next generation SAAB 9-4x. When its a real SAAB and not some idea of a joke from GM. If I want an SRX, I'd like to be spared from the humor and just shoot for the Cadillac instead. Not a second attempt to pull a 9-7x which we all know how successful that was.

I agree with iluvamcars. If you compare a 9-4X it looks nothing like an Equinox, or a Terrain. It might be "badged engineered", but the average consumer won't know and that's not going to hurt their image. Same with the Malibu and the Regal.

Obviously the GMT900 series is a different story as iluvamcars pointed out.

Also there's a reason why the Epsilon II platform has been 'whored out' and for a good reason. It's a very good platform.

First off, im not a GM fanboy. I'll buy any type of car out there and give my support to anycompany.

The Equinox and Terrain may be going after the same crowd but they are certainly not attracting the same buyers the SRX is. Plus, the SRX is mid-size, while the Equinox is more compact. The Equinox and SRX dont even have the same wheelbases. And you can go anywhere and find that indeed the Theta Premium partially based on the Epsilon II.

Of course the Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade are all the same. That is actual badge engineering. But the Regal and Malibu are not badge engineered just because they share the same platform. The Malibu and Regal actually ride on different wheelbases and attract different people.

The Enclave/Acadia/Traverse are not badge engineered. First off, the Enclave is bigger than the other two. The Enclave shares absolutely no body panels inside or out with the other two Lambdas. The only thing the Traverse shares with the Acadia is its exterior doors.

If someone looked at an Enclave then looked at a Traverse they would not know they were based on the same platform unless they were told so or already knew. Quit calling these cars badge engineered because they are not!! Just because they share a platform does not mean anything. Hell, like i said, some of those vehicles have different wheelbases. But im not denying that the Colorado/Canyon and GMT900 siblings are badge engineered. But those are trucks and its different for trucks. Im not gonna waste space by telling you why. If you are an enthusiast you should get the general idea.

@iluvamcars: The Equinox, Terrain, SRX and 9-4X are ALL based off of GM's Theta platform and they share the majority of their running gear, and mechanicals. Sure they have different styling and different interiors, but under the skin they are majority the same vehicle. They are all Theta Platform Crossovers.

Why do GM fanboys refuse to get this concept? The spin doctors call it "brand engineering" selling what is essentially the same vehicle under as many brands as possible with hopes of saturating the market. That's all GM has done for the past 10 years. They make one good vehicle then clone it and spread it around amongst the other brands. Even after bankruptcy and restructuring they are still selling 2, 3, 4 versions of the same vehicle. It hurts their market b/c anybody that knows cars worth a crap can look at the vehicles across the brands and tell that they are essentially the same thing.

Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade... same thing.
Malibu/Regal... same thing.
Silverado/Sierra... same thing.
Traverse/Acadia/Enclave... same thing.
Colorado/Canyon... same thing.
Equinox/Terrain/SRX/9-4X... same thing.

Latest data shows Cadillac at #12 in Reliability and Saab at #16. Not much of a difference. Cadillac is above average (1.5 problems per car) and Saab below but only .08 problems per vehicle difference vs. Lexus at 1.15 problems per vehicle.

Please tell me how this is a clone of the clone of the Equinox?? A clone is an exact copy of something. This looks nothing like the SRX or the Equinox, or the Terrain. Plus, this and the SRX are on the Theta Premium, which is partially based on the Epsilon II and features a more renifed chassis.

And i wouldnt call it a mess because the Equinox and Terrain are flying off the lots. The SRX is selling decent too.
