Seeking to build up excitement for its upcoming 9-4X, Saab says that it will give buyers an Apple iPad when they place an order for the Swedish automaker's new crossover.

The promotion, which runs through the end of February, requires a $500 non-refundable deposit in order to secure the iPad. Buyers who change their minds will effectively buy a 16GB Wi-Fi iPad for same price Apple charges, but Saab anticipates that most reservations will result in vehicle deliveries.

Those who reserve 9-4Xs online will receive a phone call from their selected dealer beginning in mid-January when the automaker opens up 9-4X ordering. At that time, buyers can try to negotiate a reduced vehicle price with the dealer, although Saab points out that a 9-4X base price is $34,200 and that it does not anticipate offering any major incentives.
