SEMA 2009: 2010 Saleen S281

11/04/2009, 1:00 PM

By Drew Johnson

Following some earlier teaser shots, Saleen has finally taken the wraps off its 2010 S281 at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Based on the 2010 Ford Mustang GT, the all-new model promises a significant performance upgrade over the outgoing model.

Underhood, the S281 uses a supercharged version of the Mustang GT’s 281 cubic inch 4.6L V8. While the previous S281 model made a rather pedestrian 335 horsepower, the 2010 S281 has a healthy 485 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque on tap. No performance figures were given, but expect a 0-60 time well under 5 seconds.

Building on the 2010 ‘Stang’s track prowess, the 2010 S281 adds Saleen specific rate front and rear springs, nitrogen pressurized front struts and rear shocks and performance sway bars. A front strut tower brace is also available.

The S281 comes from the factory wearing 20-inch seven-spoke “Speed Star” silver wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero Rosso rubber. A chrome version of the Speed Star wheel is available, as are five spoke chrome units.

Larger 14-inch slotted front rotors clamped by four-piston calipers are charged with stopping duties on the base S281, with 15-inch six-piston units optional.

Pricing for the 2010 S281 has yet to be announced.

Who the fock cares, the Camaro is king, the Mustang is old hat. Special editions will do nothing to help Ford beat the hot Camaro.

GM. AN American Revolution!

That sure is nice. I’m going to have to find it today and get a shot.

I’ll be down there later today (leaving here at about 1:30), and I hope I find some good stuff for what I’m doing.

craparo, slomaro, flash-in-the-panaro, n who-caro – its all the same ’cause in a couple o years it’ll make like its past and run away with its tail between the legs while the stang keeps on going.

Of all the cars at SEMA this is the best. Not cartoonish looking like other’s which havetoo much plastic and body kits. Camaro Z28 looks good too. Not too busy

Note for your 5.0 “waiters” that it will be a high compression 10:1 motor – it will not be easy to supercharge at all. The current 4.6 has an incredible amount of headroom on it and easy to supercharge (there are a half dozen or so options, including one from FRPP with a full factory warranty).

This Saleen will easily smoke a stock 5.0, just about the way the 5.0 will easily smoke a naturally aspirated 4.6. It’s all relative.

so im curious..all the people waiting for 5.0 mustangs..do you have your money ready or are you all talk?!
like i have said before, you can pick up a 2007-08 shelby GT500 for high $ 30’s to low 40’s..so why wait?! I personally think people just like to talk..when the 5.0’s come out, they’ll have a new excuse!

@ NMOFGM – I believe Ford wised up and introduced the new mustang before GM if I recall correctly? Oh and BTW. Being the Mustang was a success, I believe GM said “Oh look! The Mustang is a hot seller!! Maybe we should get our heads out of our a$$e$ and revive the Camaro after a 5 year hiatus. But before we sell it, lets introduce it as a concept car to tease people and wait 3 years so that the Mustang can dominate the market and we go bankrupt. Oh wait!! We remember now why we killed the Camaro in 2002!! The Mustang added to our slow sales!! Great idea. If we can’t beat them, copy them.” Oh and another thing. The Camaro (introduced in 1967) wouldn’t have existed if not for the Mustang (introduced in 1964). So lets think about who’s the real king here.

Respect to Saleen manufacturer, but common for God’s sake u need a freaken 4.6L engine and a V8 and a supercharger to produce that kind of horse power a? Right i mean look at the new BMW M3 GTS it doesnt need any forced induction and plus produces similar power to this piece of krap. But as i said besides what saleen did with this stang still they get my respect for their supercar though.

Holy cow NMOFGM! is the Camaro that good??? Last I heard their SS had a recall first week out for faulty battery cables, causing them to shut down at any given time. AND. Was it not one the the GM’s at GM that said “It’s time to kill the Camaro.” and did so in 2002?
Has the Mustang had problems in it’s past? Yes. I’d rather buy a Mustang GT over a Camaro any day.
BUY FORD!!! THEY HAVEN’T USED OUR TAX MONEY lol

Is that so darkwingduck? Yet another example of the astonishing quality of GM cars that NMOFGM presents us with. Too bad the Mustang doesn’t have that problem.
